Oh hai, don't mind me, just another crazy Blackfyre theory here.... Or IS it crazy? Perhaps not...and hopefully you fine folk can help me figure that out. Obviously, patterns/parallels/inversions are kindof my jam, and every so often one jumps out at me from nowhere that turns out to be a YOOGE in-your-face repeat that somehow has been missed over 20 years of message board nerd-dom. The one I'm going to outline below is a bit unusual, because the points of interest have been been discussed ad nauseam ad infinitum, and comparisons have been made, but never back to back with these two individuals...at least AFAIK, anyway. So as you read, keep in mind that I'll be going somewhere with this - probably two directionally different somewheres, actually - and you'll probably see immediately what I'm thinking, but this will be a starter for now. NOTE: This was originally going to be part of Melifeather 's "Through the Looking Glass" project, but since focus changed to "Wheel of Time" I'll keep it separated from that work.
ETA: This is somewhat brief and messy, and includes some speculation. If anyone has any data to fill in the blanks or a better suggestion for some of the missing pieces, let me know and I will update the main thread.

Notes to be sorted:
Daemon preferred to marry sister Daenerys, but Aegon wanted Tyrosh fleet (Said that Daemon was told could later take 2nd wife, but Daeron stopped that as king) Daeron became one of the biggest obstacles to Aegon's misrule some lords liked Aegon as he could be bribed for honors and power many others who condemned the king's behavior flocked to Daeron Despite fights, Aegon never formally disowned Daeron - most likely as hold on throne would not be secure if he did would mean civil war as lords tired of Aegon's rule would side with Daeron
Daeron carried Dark Sister, Daemon carried Blackfyre Daeron was the academic, Daemon was the leader All the great KNIGHTS of the realm flocked to Daemon Daemon had 7 sons– two, twin boys, killed in battle against the crown; remainder went into exile and supposedly they and all descendants died
Blackfyre: Aegon IV Targaryen chose to bestow Blackfyre on his bastard son Daemon Waters, a born warrior, instead of his scholarly legitimate son, the future Daeron II Targaryen.
Eustace: Because Daemon was the better man. The old king saw it, too. He gave the sword to Daemon. Blackfyre, the sword of Aegon the Conqueror, the blade that every Targaryen king had wielded since the Conquest ... he put that sword in Daemon's hand the day he knighted him, a boy of twelve.
Egg: My father says that was because Daemon was a swordsman, and Daeron never was. Why give a horse to a man who cannot ride? The sword was not the kingdom, he says.
Did Rhaegar wanted to become a warrior because he wanted to earn the right to carry Blackfyre?
Could there be another Targaryen out there that is 1) OLDER than Rhaegar and 2) that has a stronger CLAIM than Rhaegar (or any of Aerys' line)? Or, conversely, that Rhaegar himself is the one of dubious claim?
Illyrio: "Viserys was Mad Aerys's son, just so. Daenerys … Daenerys is quite different." He popped a roasted lark into his mouth and crunched it noisily, bones and all. "The frightened child who sheltered in my manse died on the Dothraki sea, and was reborn in blood and fire. This dragon queen who wears her name is a true Targaryen."
Daemon Blackfyre: bastard son of Aegon & Daena, but the "true" Targaryen in looks and skill. Received Blackfyre as sign of "true" Targaryen heir. Is Illyrio's statement a veiled way of saying Dany is NOT the daughter of the Mad King....Dany is a Blackfyre daughter?
Full disclosure: I should say here before I go too much further that I believe The Smiling Knight of the Kingswood Brotherhood fame will turn out to be a male descendant of Daemon Blackfyre. Granted, there's not a lot known other than he's psychotic and a deadly swordsman - The Mountain of Jaime's childhood, half as big but twice as mad. "The Smiling Knight was a madman, cruelty and chivalry all jumbled up together, but he did not know the meaning of fear." Also, TSK is running around with Simon Toyne - Toynes famous for supporting Bittersteel in Blackfyre rebellions. Not to mention, madness runs in the Targaryen line, coin flip and all, and this guy was seemingly nuts. It just fits. (Marvel arcs support this as well, which I'll get to in my forum eventually.)

Bacon-y-awesomeness! You have done an astounding job putting this together! I know how time consuming this must have been to research!
You have uncovered a mountain of parallels! This is a prime example of the wheel of time in motion with regards to the Targaryen family!
I would like to link to this from my OP, with your permission? I think it's a perfect example of what happened before the hinge was opened. The wheel of time is still circling round, but the current story has different players and the Greyjoys are in the Targaryen's position.
If you find additional parallels like this one, please let me know.

AIV: no one questioned parentage of Naerys’ second child Daenerys, born after much trouble (note: Daenerys was surviving twin), despite 19 year gap between successful pregnancies/viable offspring AII: no one questioned Viserys' parentage upon his birth, despite 17 year gap between successful pregnancies/viable offspring Hey now, there's a thing. Dany a surviving twin, this time not from a Targ queen though? But this next one is what got me thinking... One year later, Naerys dies in childbirth (unnamed/unknown child – child assumed to have died as well). With yet another considerable gap between viable births for Rhaella, perhaps she did indeed have twins, and being in a dangerous situation she faked her death and left with the next male heir to the throne. Leaving her daughter and heir presumptive to the king in Westeros. That would make Aegon, not Rhaegar's son, but his brother. Then Illyrio finds JonCon and tells him porkies about the Pisswater Prince, so as to protect a boy with a weaker claim to the throne, since at this point Viserys, who was named heir by Aerys* is still alive. When I've got my tin hat on, it all kinda makes sense. Why hide the boy in such poor conditions, and not worry too much about him? If he was the heir apparent, being the only living son of Rhaegar, you'd think they'd take better care of him. But they grow to love the child because he's everything Viserys is not. And at the same time, both Illyrio and Varys can be supporting Dany because she is last known Targ and maybe was born first? But they also help to hide and support Aegon as the spare. Until Viserys dies, then they up their game and push Aegon forward. And mum is there with her last child as Septa Lamore. *This whole added aspect of this situation from the World Book fucks things up more than it helps to clear things up at all.

Adding this while it's fresh in my mind.... tying in a bit to THIS THREAD about the oddity of House Mormont and Longclaw. So in the random notes I mention the possibility of Rhaegar trying to earn the right to carry Blackfyre, the ancestral sword worthy of only "true" Targaryens. Next, we move on to the points in the above link about Jeor Mormont suddenly joining the NW out of nowhere and moving up the ranks in short order to become LC.....and then some years later suddenly coughing up a 500 year old Valyrian Steel bastard sword from a storage locker at the Wall, a family sword that his traitorous son Jorah was kind enough to leave behind before fleeing into exile. A self-imposed exile that just so happens to be right around the time that Daenerys and Viserys are forced to flee the house with the red door in Braavos, and an exile that is in response to Ned Stark calling for Jorah's head for supposedly handing over some poachers to Tyroshi slavers - an act that Ned is still severely pissed about a decade later. And now of course text indicates that Dany apparently spent some serious time either in Tyrosh or WITH someone from Tyrosh (enough to develop an accent, anyway), and Jon Snow has been gifted the ancestral sword of House Mormont (insert Dr. Evil "Mormont" air quotes here). Stream of consciousness wanton speculation warning: Longclaw is, in fact, Blackfyre. I have no idea how it would have come into Mormont possession other than a) Aemon had it at the Wall all this time, or b) Rhaegar did actually procure it at some point and Ned or Jorah picked it up on the battlefield when Rhaegar fell, sending it away for safekeeping to House Mormont in the far north [there is a SSM that supports this 'battle recovery' happening with VS swords]. I'm trying to recall if Jorah even mentions Longclaw at any point in text...I don't think he does, which leads me to think that if anyone picked it up, it was Ned. (A Search of Ice and Fire returns no results for Longclaw in any Dany POVs.) Jorah may not even know about it - Jeor's story about him leaving it behind when he goes into exile despite the $$$ he could have gotten for a VS sword smells fishy to me. If the latter, the sword was not the only thing sent to Jeor Mormont for safekeeping. Jeor joined the NW shortly before the Rebellion - like, very shortly before - and no one really knows why. Could he have been protecting something - or rather, someONE - and the only way to keep this secret was to take the black? So if Jeor joined prior to the start of RR, that leaves three likely options: a) the REAL Aegon Targaryen, b) Ashara Dayne with her Harrenhal-era child, or c) Lyanna Stark, with pending offspring? Or, perhaps a combo of A & B if you lean toward the idea of Ashara Dayne being the real mother of Rhaegar's later children. Smiling Knight: I think he's Targaryen - a Blackfyre. Even bigger crackpot: I think he fathered one of the kids in the story. Question is, which one? I know what MARVEL says, but who knows what GRRM will rip off from that arc. Anyway, my train of thought goes two ways: Aerys learned of TSK and wanted to get rid of him, and/or Rhaegar was actually working with TSK in secret to reunite the bloodlines. Also, Lyanna Stark = Wenda the White Fawn from the Kingswood Brotherhood. This is being semi-repeated in Arya's story. Need to organize this much better, ugh.

Some Pig No Doubt that is a very intriguing theory, and I quite love it! I'll keep an eye out for it while deciphering future chapters for the wheel of time. I have a feeling this will come up.

I tend to agree that Dany is not the child of Aerys and Rahella. Which in my mind makes her the main "black dragon" of the story. The black dragon just being the inverse colors of the Targaryen sigil, which seems to represent one's status as a bastard. Now I do tend to believe that she may be of the maternal line of Blackfyres that Illyrio hints at, but I don't think that this is necessary to make her the black dragon of our story.
My main belief is that she is the coming together of former Targaryen bloodlines that either through illegitimacy, or other reasons broke off from the "royal" Targaryen bloodline. If you look back at their ancestry the Royal Targaryen bloodline at the time of Aerys II, was really descended from Viserys I (who never rode a dragon) and the daughter of a banker from Lys. This bloodline never rode a dragon. We have other bloodlines from dragon riders like Aegon III and Baela Velaryon (formerly Baela Targaryen) that were never in the royal family. I think the significance of the Blackfyre line is not that it resulted from one of Aegon IV's many bastards, but that it came from Daena the Defiant.
Now there is one other passage that makes me think that Jorah Mormont may have been given some information that Dany was not who she believed herself to be.
My guess is that Jorah may have been given the inside scoop that Dany was a bastard and Viserys may have been passing her off as his sister, so she could be used as coin to help him obtain an army. When she comes naturally to command, he starts to rethink what he was told, or he is exhibiting surprise that someone so low born could be so regal.

freyfamilyreunion, I remembered you had done a lot of work on Dany being "not Dany" and most likely an offshoot of another line. If you still have that written up and could post it here, that would be awesome. I bet our two theories can converge.

freyfamilyreunion , I remembered you had done a lot of work on Dany being "not Dany" and most likely an offshoot of another line. If you still have that written up and could post it here, that would be awesome. I bet our two theories can converge. I don't think I ever did one particular thread or theory on this. It mainly came out of one of the Lemon Tree in Braavos threads on the Westeros forum. It certainly seemed like GRRM might be dropping hints that Dany's very early years were in Dorne and not Braavos, but I never could get my head around, how Viserys would be fooled into thinking she was his sister. Than another poster suggested that Viserys wasn't fooled, he was lying about Dany being his sister and he was the primary person who convinced her as she was growing up that she was his sister. He wasn't doing it as a out of the goodness of his heart, he was instead trying to make sure she could legitimately be passed off as the last Targaryen princess. That's when everything kind of clicked into place.
Viserys needed an army, thus he needed a coin to purchase the army. He didn't have any money of his own (hence the beggar king) but if a third party could be convinced that he had a sister born on Dragonstone right before their flight to Braavos, then he has a valuable bride to offer. And in fact that is exactly what they do with Drago. So in order for this ruse to work, I think the following parties needed to be in on it: Viserys, Darry, and the Sealord of Braavos. If Dany is actually from Dorne, than I think Doran and Oberyn were in on it as well. Which is why their marriage pact is only between Arianne and Viserys, and did not include Dany and Quentyn. They knew that Dany was a ruse. And in fact they may have been the ones who supplied Viserys with a very young Dany. Who grew up being told she was brought to Braavos as a babe, which explains the disconnect between her belief and her memories of the lemon tree outside her house.
The genetics also plays a part for me. It seems that dragon hatching and dragon riding has a genetic component. Which is why the Targaryens always married brothers to sisters or to first cousins, they kept the dragon riding/hatching genes in their family. It's when they start marrying outside of the family is when they end up losing the dragon riding/hatching abilities. Their genes got too "diluted". I think this is why the Citadel took such an interest in the Targaryen marriages. They knew this and tried to dilute their genes to rid them of their dragons, or else marry them into friendly houses (such as Hightower) to have dragon rider allies.
If true, why would Dany suddenly be able to hatch her dragons. Why did she develop a bond with her eggs when generations of Targaryens before her couldn't? She probably could not if she were the daughter of Aerys and Rahella, but ironically she could if she resulted from a combination of divergent bloodlines of dragon riders. Such as Blackfyre, Plumm, Longwater, Velaryon, Targaryen, ect.

That's when everything kind of clicked into place. The text supports this as well. Viserys is always calling Dany 'sister' not Danaerys or Dany. It's like he's reinforcing her role. And character wise, this would be definitely be something in Viserys play book. He would be onboard with anything that helps him recover his inheritance. Using an alternate bloodline that is close enough to the Royal Targ line is completely in-line with his character. I'm going to insert some of the Potterverse here. In the magical world, interbred marriages end up with unstable bloodlines that are incapable of becoming solid witches and wizards. They become corrupted and their magic suffers for it. Now if we compare that to the interbreeding we know happens in the real world and in Planetos, the offspring of these marriages become unstable. Aerys is mad, and it's believed to derive from the Targ blood in him. Dany is constantly afraid this aspect of her 'father's' will be true of her too. I can't remember which character said it was a coin toss whenever a new Targ was born, if they would turn out mad or sane. So if there is new blood introduced that still carries the dragonrider/hatcher from old Valyria in Dany, and she also has the non-Royal Targ blood, then I would think this is what actually gave her the ability to hatch her dragons.

Viserys is always calling Dany 'sister' I can see this. We need to imagine this in a sarcastic tone. Or a pedantic tone. As if he's drilling the idea into her head, but keeping her subservient at the same time. Which he did, for her whole life.
