Blue roses = wild white roses dyed blue with sloe? With blood - Other blood. The Others clearly have pale blue blood in the books. This was part of one of my insane ideas about the glowing blue swords in Jaime's dream being that color because they were stained with Other blood, the same way Ice when reforged had ripples of red (human blood). Red roses came about because Aphrodite bled all over a white rose when Adonis was wounded/dying - either she cut her feet on thorns or his blood mixed with her tears. PS Adonis was wounded while hunting a boar that was deliberately sent out to kill him.

In "my" theory about the Others being made of frozen air, I thought the pale blue blood was liquid oxygen. If you google liquid oxygen you can see that it is indeed pale blue. (I put "my" in quotes because I know I first read about this a long time ago in the Heresy thread, but no one will take credit for it).
But regardless, I maintain that the Others are phony, frozen golems made to resemble the bedtime stories of the Others of old. In other words, just as they are phony, so is their blood. You can say it is ginned up, or perhaps sloe ginned up .

Re: sloe berries & wild white roses-
Sloe blue dye Dyed blue flowers Died blue flowers Dead blue flowers Blue flower growing through chink in wall of ice Chink = breach point Growing = pregnant Pregnant wolf gets south of the wall to deliver her pups Pups born of the dead ETA: mama wolf was pretty corpse-y and rotting when found by Ned's party, but the pups were hale and hearty. "Cold preserves". So why was mama wolf decomposing so much so fast? MAMA WAS ALREADY DEAD MAMA HAD BEEN DEAD A WHILE

I don't get the sloe reference.
The only "blue dye" we see in the books is from Shade of the Evening, which comes from the black-wood, blue-leaved trees outside of the House of the Undying.

It's from the fishermans daughter essay - there's a blurb in there about sloe berries.
But yeah SotE tees too... that ties to sloe and the blackthorn tree they come from- also in that essay ( and it's sister essay I haven't finished)

I see that, but I don't see them in the book, that's all I meant... did I miss something?

Anyhoo, Dead mom, the blue flower, finds the bypass cheat code for the wall's warding - pregnancy. She "grows" through the chink, gets south, and gives birth to her magical not quite fully human child on the other side.

Was thinking...should we move any UnLya discussion to the Otherbaby thread to keep it with the original topic? I did some playing around with ideas today but think it will be more relevant in WP's thread.

The only "blue dye" we see in the books is from Shade of the Evening, which comes from the black-wood, blue-leaved trees outside of the House of the Undying. A sudden thought on this - I touched on the Blackthorn tree in the Fisherman's Daughter essay, and I do actually have a lot more to say about it in my unfinished :/ Trees essay, but let's assume that it has an equivalent in the Shade of the Evening Tree. The shade tree leaves produce the goo that the warlocks and Euron like, and of course it dyes their lips blue. I'm going to say that it is fully within the realm of possibility, then, that shade leaf goo could be used to dye OTHER things as well...like the petals of flowers. It's also within the realm of possibility that other parts of the tree might be made into something as well. So for giggles, let's pretend that Rhaegar/someone associated with Rhaegar had some SotE juice on his person at the tourney, because reasons. He decided to crown Lyanna as QoLaB, and took the normal laurel of white roses and dipped it in his SotE juice. Voila, pale blue flowers dripping with shade leaf goo and symbolism. To go along with that, we have Ned's dream in which he felt the thorns underneath...one pricking him, or so his POV says - we don't know if this actually happened; we also have images of Lyanna wearing said laurel in Theon's vision and others. Now, important to remember that SotE juice is also a powerful hallucinogenic. Couple of parts to this: First, back in George's hippy trippy days of the 60s and 70s, there existed the urban legend that those in search of "spiritual awakening" liked to put LSD on those awesome headbands of which they were so fond - because the acid on the headband would slowly be absorbed into wearer's skin as they danced and swayed and sweated, creating a majorly prolonged and intense trip. This practice is famously attributed to Jimi Hendrix - rumor even had it that he would make cuts on his forehead before donning the iconic sweatband to get the acid into his system more quickly. (This myth has been debunked, but people still really like telling it.) Second, I'm reminded of Oberyn's squire oiling up his spear before his battle with the Mountain. Even though Oberyn didn't fare so well in the fight, let's remember what happened to Gregor: His blood turns black with gangrene. His piss is full of pus. The poison eats a hole the size of a fist in his side. In addition, Qyburn eventually has to hide Gregor away in the lowest levels of the Black Cells, far away from everyone, because his screams are so loud. That's not all, though: A Feast for Crows - Cersei II "Ser Gregor." Qyburn shrugged. "I have examined him, as you commanded. The poison on the Viper's spear was manticore venom from the east, I would stake my life on that." "Pycelle says no. He told my lord father that manticore venom kills the instant it reaches the heart." "And so it does. But this venom has been thickened somehow, so as to draw out the Mountain's dying."
Qyburn then of course creates UnGregor using his special skills that got him booted from the Citadel. What I'm getting at: slow-acting poison, blue flowers, tips of thorns. Also, Blackthorn - with its star-shaped petals and long wicked thorns - is associated with Ashara and House Dayne. Ashara is from Dorne, where poisons are kindof a thing.

And on that note, that brings us full circle to the idea of UnGregor being used to create unstoppable monster babies that will take over the world. lol

We also have the black wood being the complement/foil to the white wood/weirwood. As well as Melissa Blackwood being Bloodraven's mother via Aegon IV, and Betha Blackwood being Aegon V's consort - the Blackwood familt whose sigil is a DEAD weirwood.

And both freyfamilyreunion and I were pondering in the FD thread whether or not the current batch of Daynes come from a Targaryen/Blackwood ancestor.

Many thoughts to unload about UnLya and wandering spirits, the Mountain and Beric in the Riverlands, chinks in ice, revenants, etc. Heading out to Mr. Pig's company BBQ but will discuss later tonight.
Nutshell: I think we may have at least two separate "death events" for Lyanna.
