I'm going to guess that RLJers are having a field day with this news... Someone on imgur uploaded a picture of an article from the Hull Daily Mail. The interview is mainly about how proud the family are about their northern boy done well, but it includes some very spoilery material at the bottom of the second column. Read at your own risk. Wish I hadn't i.imgur.com/4MKfdPw.jpg

From a tv show pov it would make more sense if Jon turns out to be the son of Arthur Dayne, so viewers would know what Jon's father looked like and why Jon is a badass fighter. Did they mention Rhaegar this season? If they drop RLJ in episode 10 the tv only audience will ask "What the fuck is a Rhaegar?"

They've been more focused on Lyanna this year, but almost every single season has at least one episode that mentions Rhaegar. Quite a few mention Rhaegar in context with Lyanna, the most damning is Oberyn's comments on how Rhaegar dumped Elia for her. Then we have both Bran and Sansa telling us that Rhaegar kidnapped and raped Lyanna, aside from Robert saying that in the very first episode, obviously. And of course there's always mention of Rhaegar within Dany's story line, from both Jorah and Selmy. So, yes, the audience does know who Rhaegar is, so much so that I've got friends who are Unsullied and they believe in RLJ.

Also, if he were would that foreshadow Jon losing the decisive battle?

But shouldn't they show Rhaegar once if he is Jon's father? Not necessarily. He's not show in the novels either, aside from a drug induced vision of Dany's and a physical description from Cersei. The thing is, unless Robert turns out to be Jon's father, there is no other man on the show ever associated with Lyanna. And there has only been one mention of Arthur Dayne, and that was in the White Book, which gets read aloud in one episode 2 seasons ago, and the physically seeing him die at the ToJ, so it would be a bit out of left field to have him as Jon's father. Also, if he were would that foreshadow Jon losing the decisive battle? You mean the battle against the Others or the battle of Winterfell? I don't see how being the product of Rhaegar and Lyanna would change the outcome of any battle.
