Have begun Season 2: Asylum. I think this one is more twisted than the first one, holy gods.
I watched the first episode last night. It occurred to me that perhaps filling my insomnia hours with this show was not the best of decisions. I'm also not entirely convinced by Jessica Lange as a nun. She's got the accent pretty much right, and while she can play bitter to the hilt, she just does not convince me as religious or uptight. Neither does the Mad Dr seem too menacing.
I'm a fan of the show. I've only watched through S3 though. The carnival/freak show theme of S4 creeped me out too much to want to watch it. Will watch S5 when it's free on Amazon on something, but it looks good. So far S2 has been my favorite.

So I DID watch S4, and yes, Twisty the psycho murder clown was creepy as fuck and I normally don't even mind clowns that much. But yeah...a couple of scenes were most definitely in the "Oh HELLLLLL no" category.
So I finally made it through Freak Show. Ok so I'll admit the clown in that one had me walking around with a knife in my pocket, JIC, for about a week or so. But I made it, and I have to say things got real dusty in my house when Jessica Lange went out. She really was the best part of that show. Her role in s03 Coven was delicious. Her and Angel Basset killed it that in that series.
But Hotel is leaving disappointed. I don't know if it's the lack of Jessica Lange, or if it's just the whole storyline I'm not liking. The addition of Lady Gaga is a real plus, I think, but she's not deep enough. Angel Basset's rage is palpable, Kathy Bate's damage is heartbreaking and Denis O'Hare's Liz Taylor is brilliant, until you get to his backstory, which kind of makes me less sympathetic for him. But Gaga's performance is too stiff at times. I want to see her emotions in the present day, not in flashbacks.
In any case, I've got about 4 episodes of Hotel left, maybe they'll turn it around and change my mind.
The premiere wasn't bad - a few spooky moments so we shall see. Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Lily Rabe, and Evan Peters are all back for this one. I don't remember Francis Conroy being listed in the credits though, so I will be bummed if she doesn't return.
