Had no idea it was the season finale already. And now we have to wait 2 years for season 2

And now we have to wait 2 years for season 2 I know, right? At least Season 1 will be out on DVD by then, because I will absolutely have to rewatch the whole thing prior to Season 2's air date just to remember what the heck is going on!

I really like the mid-season break model that is becoming more popular now because you only have to wait a few months each time. With that in mind 2 years is practically an eternity! If a season every 2 years (and a piddly 10 episodes at that) is going to be their MO then it kinda dampens my enthusiasm for the show.

I guess HBO is going for quality over quantity (although quality can sometimes be debatable, really). However, given the level of production and CGI that a show like this needs, I'm bummed but not surprised. As long as they keep delivering on plot and acting, I'll keep waving my wallet at them - "YES HBO, TAKE MY MONEY AND TORTURE ME WITH DELAYED GRATIFICATION, YES PLEASE" lol

Ha! that's why I threw in the 'debatable' disclaimer! (But then like a total masochist, keep on watching )

An interesting tidbit that might have been mentioned elsewhere on this site... This episode's title and much of its content was derived straight from a book called The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind, by Julian Jaynes. It posits that as recently as 3K years ago, human consciousness was essentially what we would call schizophrenic and typically involved hearing "voices" that came from itself, but which were interpreted as coming from gods. Directly on point, obviously, in an ep like that. It's a really interesting theory, though of course, extremely... ah, heretical. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicameralism_(psychology)

It posits that as recently as 3K years ago, human consciousness was essentially what we would call schizophrenic and typically involved hearing "voices" that came from itself, but which were interpreted as coming from gods. Ties in very nicely with the season finale, which I watched again last night. Not sure how I didn't catch this the first time; but the end of the showing makes much more sense now. I don't think Abernathy ever made it to the train as was theorized above. When Sizemore goes down (or up) to the area where they kept all of the disabled hosts he finds them missing. Later, we find them out at the celebration coming out of the woods, where Clementine has a gun in arm and eventually, MiB (William) gets shot. The surprise look on his face comes from (I think) the fact that he recognizes many of the hosts emerging from the woods and it's ultimately for him....an "oh shit" moment. BTW, I think this was the real MiB and not a host. I'm going to have to go with the Real Ford being shot. His commentary to Delores and Bern-arnold makes me think that he was trying to set them free so that it would achieve his ultimate goal of uploading his consciousness into his newly created host. I also think that the reason Maeve decided to get off the train is to try and "save" the little girl. I don't think it had anything to do with programming or guilt, but was simply a human instinct to save another. Also, I don't think there was anything to her leaving her purse behind. If it were important, then we would have gotten a camera shot of the purse sitting on the train car. The only thing in the purse besides lipstick is the gun; she took the coordinates of the little girl with her. Thanks "ac" for sharing the note above about the 2 years. I didn't know this either, but it would fit the motif of everything else I enjoy where authors and producers make me wait for extended periods of time for the next...chapter.

BTW, I think this was the real MiB and not a host. I thought he was happy. He was standing "in the center of the maze" in the graveyard, and finally discovered the game-changer - hosts who could actually wound/hurt him. Game on.
