All essays and discussions relating to mythology are welcome here. In particular, I'd like to begin a group project to discuss the connection between Irish/Scottish Mythology and A Song of Ice and Fire. Much has been written about ASoIaF and Ragnarok/Norse Mythology, and this has been brilliantly explored (with a twist) by Beautiful Bacon here in her Marvel series. We all know that George was inspired from multiple historical/mythological/literary sources and the Celtic/Gaelic influences have been often discussed, which I think are the perfect counterpoint to the influence of Norse Mythology. I'll start with a thread on Finn MacCool, but that should not limit anyone. Some Pig No Doubt Melifeather wolfmaid7 Ser Duncan snowfyre eiraseren – my recollection is that each of you have some thoughts/specialities in this direction so I hope you jump in. I recall some intense discussions about the Oak and Holly King, kennings, the Green Man... I realize I’m not touching on hoards of other Irish/Celtic/Gaelic myths, but I hope to create a repository here of same. Other world mythologies are also welcome. Feel free to add/link as much as you like - a formal essay is not required to start a thread, just an idea. While we're all waiting for The Winds of Winter, this could be a fresh project we can approach with new eyes.

Love this idea. A while back I was doing some digging around into the legend of Rhiannon, the Korrigan, and also those known as Sacred Prostitutes. (I was going somewhere with this, and like everything else in my life, was pulled away from it and never returned.)

Love this idea. A while back I was doing some digging around into the legend of Rhiannon, the Korrigan, and also those known as Sacred Prostitutes. (I was going somewhere with this, and like everything else in my life, was pulled away from it and never returned.) there ya go! Same here, I have so many half-explored ideas. There is no reason for a formal essay, I can't stress that enough, just the start of a conversation. Add to it as you come across more info or have new ideas.
