"The Undying call Dany ""child of three"" and I've heard several interpretations of this, but none of them sit well in my admittedly eccentric way of interpreting GRRM's clues.
Child of three - siblings? dragon riders? heads of the dragon? prophecies?
Dany is not one of three living siblings, as far as we know
Dany may be one of the dragon riders or heads of the dragon, but the phrase ""child of three"" can't be used in a sentence to describe her inclusion
Child of three prophecies? Possible. But it doesn't really work.
Child of three parents? This sentence actually makes some sense to me, as a sentence. If one parent was skinchanged, it could be applicable, but I don't have any evidence of either of Dany's parents (If Aerys and Rhaella) being skinchanged. I do have suspicions, however, that Bran the Skinchanging Timelord is going to be making some secretive ""get busy"" journeys through the weirnet.
And why child of three? Dany isn't a child. And the phrase ""child of"" is usually followed by a parent's name in the usual vernacular, unless it's an off-beat title like Child of Light, Child of Darkness etc.
What do you guys think child of three means?

I have often wondered if Rhaegar is Dany's father. So while Dany thinks her parents are Aerys and Rhaella maybe her real parents are Rhaegar and Rhaella? Child of three parents: Rhaegar, Aerys, and Rhaella.
Just my two cents at least.

I dunno about Rhaegar and Rhaella though, I've never considered an Oedipal twist to the story.

When I first read that passage, I thought child of three was just an archaic way of saying three siblings. Meaning Rhaegar, Viserys and Dany. But then, when thinking on it, Dany never was one of three siblings, since Rhaegar died before she was born.
My next thought on this was that Dany was in fact Rhaegar's daughter, since Rhaegar says to her 'there must be three' in the scene where she witnesses Aegon being called the prince that was promised. His turning to her and saying that, could be suggestive of his signifying to Dany that she is his third. But, then we run into the same problem as above, no siblings left alive, save Dany.
Now, the way out there, part of my head reckoned, maybe Dany does have two siblings alive out there that we don't know about. If the new Aegon is indeed a fake, and just about everyone suspects Jon is not whom we're told he is, then why not Dany a fake also?
So then the question becomes, who was it either fathered or birthed these three. Or more to the point, if they are half siblings between three different parents, then she is indeed a child of three, in all meanings.

I dunno about Rhaegar and Rhaella though, I've never considered an Oedipal twist to the story. The following passage made me think that maybe Rhaegar could be Dany's father. I know its probably not an original idea but I like it haha A Storm of Swords - Daenerys III Ser Jorah had no answer. He only smiled, and touched her hair, so lightly. It was enough. That night she dreamt that she was Rhaegar, riding to the Trident. But she was mounted on a dragon, not a horse. When she saw the Usurper's rebel host across the river they were armored all in ice, but she bathed them in dragonfire and they melted away like dew and turned the Trident into a torrent. Some small part of her knew that she was dreaming, but another part exulted. This is how it was meant to be. The other was a nightmare, and I have only now awakened.
She woke suddenly in the darkness of her cabin, still flush with triumph. Balerion seemed to wake with her, and she heard the faint creak of wood, water lapping against the hull, a football on the deck above her head. And something else.

This is how it was meant to be. That's a pretty significant line IMO. Dany as Rhaegar's daughter is something I can be on board with - big time. RLD and all that, which is a theory still near and dear. If we had a skinchanged or warged Rhaegar, that would make Child of Three make perfect sense. But the only culprits would be BR or Bran. There are some clues about that actually.

Aerys and Rhaella had more than three children, so I think this is evidence that Dany is Rhaegar's daughter by Ashara.

Aerys and Rhaella had more than three children, so I think this is evidence that Dany is Rhaegar's daughter by Ashara. So you think it means one of three siblings? Yes. Aerys and Rhaella had 10 children, but if we count Dany they had 11. So, if she's a child of three, then Aerys and Rhaella are not her parents. I have five sisters, so I am a child of six.

I can see you're logic though, even if dead before her birth, they still do count as her siblings. And I'm with you on Dany being Rhaegar and Ashara's, and I'm still working out the possibilities of the dead, baby 'Aegon' being Ashara's as well. But couldn't be Rhaegar's too, because then that would make Dany a child of four.

What do you guys think child of three means? No idea. Lol. Wish I had an insightful, clever theory on this one... but for now, " too many answers are the same as no answer at all." No explanation really stands out for me at the moment.

The Piss Water Prince. You know, from that theory that Elia and Ashara switched son's in order to keep the heir apparent safe. What I'm saying is that Ashara's son, in that case, could not be Rhaegar's as well, because then he would've had 4 children. Ashara's son (daughter? did anyone ever make sure the baby was a male?) that was switched would have to be a Stark baby, either Ned's or Brandon's.

Child of three bloodlines? Not necessarily three parents. Three cultures? First Men, Valyrian, and Andal, or Valyrian, Ghiscari, and Dothraki. ?
