I was talking with Duncan about my desire to collaborate as a group when working on theories. You see, I had experienced this type of brainstorming when I worked in advertising. This is how they come up with ideas on how best to market goods and services, but this could equally be a way to help develop essays whenever you're stuck, like I am now. We kind of do this already when we comment on someone's essay, but the purpose of this thread is to comment before the theory is fleshed out.
It does take some amount of trust to work this way. I think many get protective about their ideas and are afraid someone else will run away and create their own thread using your idea, but if we have mutual respect, and I believe all of our members do, then this could be really great.
What do you think about this?

I like it. I never get far enough with ideas to lay out a full theory before I get distracted. Also, procrastination is strong with this one.  I'll come back later with more to say. |

I'm on board. Right now I have about 15 theories in development (and not all Marvel-related, either!) but am spinning wheels on all 15 for various reasons. Input would be glorious.

I can get this ball rolling with something I am working on. The Captain of Guards POV chapter. At first I thought Areo Hotah was channeling Gerold Hightower, and it was enticing to think that way, because then Prince Doran would symbolize Rhaegar, but the rest of the characters weren't working. I could see a lot of Tywin symbolism going on so I threw out the question, "who would be guarding Tywin" and Some Pig answered with Ser Gregor. Of course! So, moving forward we have:
Areo Hotah = Ser Gregor Clegane
Prince Doran = Tywin Lannister
Obara Sand = Brandon or Lyanna
Lady Nym = Lyanna or Ashara
Tyene Sand = Ashara or Elia
Arianne = Cersei - edited to eliminate Rhaella. If Doran is Tywin, then Arienne is Cercei
Arys the White Knight = Ser Arthur Dayne
The Princess = Elia or Cersei
Myrcella = Rhaenys?
The Mountain = ?
Location of chapter = Harrenhal
Sunspear = Kings Landing or Casterly Rock
I know I'm asking a lot here, but any ideas on some of the characters I'm not certain of?

Maybe I should phrase my first question this way: what three women may have been working collaboratively after the deaths of Brandon and Rickard?
I am thinking Lyanna, Ashara, and Elia.

Premise of the theory: Lyanna was never kidnapped by Rhaegar. That was either a rumor or Lyanna escaped from her captors after the deaths of Brandon and Rickard. She then rode horse to Tywin to demand vengeance thinking him to be an ally with her father, but then Maester Pycelle councils Tywin that he cannot allow Lyanna to leave and undermine his plans, so he has Ser Gregor take her into custody and holds her in a tower. Then a second "Sand Snake", I'm thinking Ashara also encounters Tywin either at Kings Landing or Casterly Rock and she ends up in his custody as well. Elia is the third (Tyene) and is killed in Maegor's Holdfast (tower). Three women, all held and possibly killed in towers.
Actually, if Tywin is being counseled by Pycelle, then this starts in Kings Landing. Which means Lyanna looked for Tywin at Kings Landing. She's taken into his custody. Then when he's leaving Kings Landing to return to Casterly Rock, he's met by Ashara Dayne who is also taken into custody. He could have taken both women with him to Casterly Rock, or Ser Gregor captured them outside of Kings Landing and when Tywin hears of it, that's when he quits as Hand and either returns to Casterly Rock or goes to Harrenhall like Some Pig suggests.

You guys are killing me! You know you can hammer this out together over at TW also. I'd like to collaborate with everybody here on HoBaW. I think I've talked myself through the Captain of Guards chapter after getting back on track with Ser Gregor. I'm going to finish it this morning. I've been up since 3am. Took the BF and his friend to the airport this morning. They're flying to Bozeman, MT then driving to East Yellowstone to pickup his friend's car, and then drive back. So, now that I'm home, I'm awake. Just brewing some coffee and then I'm knocking this thing out. |

I really like this idea. My experience was to generate as many ideas as possible while suspending judgement. I always have trouble getting started; I want to get something posted; but I'm too hasty when I know it needs some vetting, more work, structure and polish. I'm not worried about ownership. I think people can bounce ideas off each other and come up with the same conclusions using the same language. It matters not to me, but I try to keep in mind that hat tips are apropos. I'm just here for the discussion. Who knows if I'll be around when this all concludes and I just want the answers; even if they are made up.
