Has anyone else heard this rumor, that Neal Gaiman is supposedly helping GRRM finish the series? I'd post a link but I'm concerned about the amount of spam that pops up on the site (perhaps an indication that this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt). If it is true, what do you think? Personally I haven't read much of Gaiman outside a few issues of his Sandman comics for DC, and a Cthullu meets Sherlock Holmes short story. I've heard good things about American Gods. I'm at a point now, that I wouldn't care if Elio and Linda helped him finish the series as long as it got done (well maybe that's an exaggeration).

At one point, I'd have agreed with you, but it's rapidly becoming apparent to me that he can't (or won't) finish this series on his own, and I'd really like to hear the end of this story from a source other than the hack HBO show.

It would be interesting if Gaiman did pitch in. He's definitely dark enough to do some of the stuff Martin seems to struggle with. But their 'voices' are so very different. Gaiman isn't as in-depth character wise as Martin is, I think. He's great at telling a story, but we don't ever feel quite as much for his characters as we do for Martin's. I would highly doubt Gaiman could pull off the sympathy we get from reading Jaime's chapters in the Riverlands. If Gaiman had written that, we'd get a lot of the action and not too much on Jaime's emotional state. He'd stay a heartless bastard for us. An entertaining one, but not a complex or sympathetic one.
