If Jorah is Rhaella's "Qarl the Maid", they were having an affair. But it begs the question, why did the Hightowers choose to ensorcell Jorah? (whether or not he was having an affair with Rhaella?) Proximity to the North? The remote-ness of Bear Island? A generally capable guy, one who could believably pull off the stunts needed, but not a very high-profile one. He was in a vulnerable position at the tourney with his dead wife, lack of heirs, and father taking off to the wall. I'd say it might just be a crime of opportunity - he was good enough for the job needed - except there is still the strange behavior of Jeor to consider. And if the Hightowers were so obsessed with prophecy, that alone could have been enough.

I don't know if he was ensorcelled, but I think he fell for Rhaella's charms. And if the Hightowers were so obsessed with prophecy, that alone could have been enough. IMO the connection to Hightower is just to let us know Sarella Sand is mirroring Lynesse Hightower aka Rhaella, and to look at what Sarella is doing. Anything to do with Sarella/Alleras will be a reflection of what Rhaella did in the past.

Although I am totally on board with spells being involved and Jorah being a pawn in the game, I still need a lot of convincing regarding Jorah being the secret lover of the queen.

Maybe it was a rape then that is described in the Wayward Bride? Jorah does come on pretty strong to Daenerys on the ship.

We can make a tenuous connection between Jorah possibly being enscorced ensconced ensnorkled magicked and the Sand Snakes because they obviously knew a good bit about potions and such. They even make a big deal of it on the show. There was also talk in the book about Sybelle Spicer having a hand in the Red Wedding and it's aftermath (no heirs), and I remember talk of the possibility of Robb being a victim of a love potion, on top of the probable moon tea given to Jeyne. This was back on W maybe a year ago? I've seen it pop up a few times. So that ties in Maggy the Frog and even the Lannisters. And I have no idea where I'm going with this.

Aren't the Sand Snakes more about poisoning people than love potions?

yes, just trying to talk it through and see where we land.
But Maggy the Frog's/Sybelle Spicers connection with love potions is undeniable.

And Rhaella may have just enlisted Jorah's assistance after Aerys raped her. I feel like Melisandre interpreting the flames!
We've got Qarl forcing himself upon Asha, who initially fights him off, but then gives into it with passion. Then afterward she jokes with him, something about your life is mine, where's my dagger? Then she goes on to comment how long and lean he is, smooth shaven and hardly no body hair. I mean, come on! That's the exact opposite of Jorah! So, to interpret this it could go several ways, and the last one probably fits the situation best. Aerys rapes Rhaella, then Rhaella enlists Jorah's help. He helps her and then gets a crush on her. He tries winning her affections, until finally he gives up and helps her find a ship. He then does what a lot of men do when rejected, he basically calls her a "whore" by saying she works as a concubine.

I have to revise my thoughts on my earlier posts. There is something about the locations that are bothering me. I actually had to draw a map to help me keep this straight!
If you look at the Iron Islands and Deepwood Motte, they are the mirrored reflection of Dragonstone and Dorne. The Iron Islands are southwest of Deepwood Motte, and Dragonstone is an island northeast of Dorne.
Which is the factual story? Viserys and Daenerys report being on Dragonstone, with the conflicting memory of Bear Island. It is my theory that the current characters have false memories. Obviously one is incorrect. Bear Island's reflection would be closer to Greenstone.
The Iron Islands are reflecting Dragonstone: Asha took Deepwood Motte and brought Lady Glover to the Iron Islands, then brought her back to Deepwood Motte again. We don't know Asha's fate yet or whether she'll go anywhere else, but isn't she currently with Stannis just west of Winterfell?
Dragonstone should be the inverse of what Asha did: Rhaella went to Dorne and brought Ashara Dayne to Dragonstone, then brought her back to Dorne again. The inverse of Winterfell should be Starfall tower of joy.
This doesn't play into your "Dany was at Bear Island" theory, I'm afraid. So, it's my conclusion that the Bear Island memories are the false ones.
As for Lady Lynesse...She's meant to be similar to Rhaella, but I think she's the "false memory". She does have the Hightower connection with Sarella/Alleras who is the real inversion of Rhaella. Maybe Jorah is also the "false memory"? I don't mean to imply that Jorah didn't wed Lynesse. He likely did, but I think GRRM has led us on a wild goose chase with false clues.
Long story short, I think I'm still looking for Rhaella's "Qarl".

Not to stray too far off topic, but if Arya is mirroring Lyanna, then Bear Island is mirroring Braavos. Wouldn't it be ironic if Dany and Jon were getting each other's memories mixed up?

To unravel the connection of supposed tyroshi slave trade and becoming the lady/prostitute of A man from Lys. One should look at the connections the hightowers have to the free cities.
Their once was a Pirate King that sat on the River in Oldtown. Oldtown which was founded by hightowers. In the princess and the queen/The greens and the blacks Prince viserys is captured at a very young age and held in captivity who was he held by? and years later when he needs a Queen as a 12 year old who is brought to wed him but the 19 year old Rogare woman. How was he captured as a child? how would they know where to apprehend him and his egg.
Why were the Hightowers so involved in the dance of dragons and manipulating things.
What were the hightowers before they were living in the hightower? Pirates in my opinion.
The hightowers and the Rogare family are connected and it may help with some of the whys and whens of the Jorah Mormont theory if we look at that connection.

How was he captured as a child? how would they know where to apprehend him and his egg. Thanks for bringing this up, I see I need to reread TPatQ soon. What I do remember is that the Rogares were about as powerful as the Iron Bank at the time, and also had very close connections to the Martells. This is a great angle to explore. Hightowers and the Rogare family are connected No doubt! The Hightowers were seafarers and traders for certain, pirates too most likely. What's also strange is the complete lack of family tree information for the Mormonts. The only thing we know is an Ironborn connection from the legend of KitN Rodrick winning Bear Island in a wrestling match, which may or may not be part of their heritage. But we also know from that story that the island was awarded to an already existing House Mormont. So where did they come from before then? And why were they awarded the island? They have a rare Valyrian sword, and their noblewomen are fighters, which is even more rare. I also find it interesting that the show is obsessed with calling Jorah Jorah the Andal. Some digging tells me that this is just a quirk of Dothraki language and knowledge, as they use the term interchangeably with Westerosi. But the term is only used once in the novels, from what I can find. This is just before Drogo's speech about Rhaego. And I can't help but wonder about the connection, since it includes references to poisons as well as a reward/gift for saving a queen.

Somewhere around here I laid out a huge list of crazy similarities/parallels between Aerys the Mad King and Aegon the Unworthy. Their life paths are nearly identical - and the interesting connection here is: Aegon IV's mother = Larra Rogare.
I'm telling you guys, there is definitely a Blackfyre ploy in place, and it's not entirely fAegon. I think one of our main teen dynamos in the series may be the lost one.

Jorah and Jeor Mormont are a strange couple of dudes. and the absence of the family tree on wikis is a red flag for me.
I think bear Island and its proximity to the Shadow tower are huge keys to the Rhaegar secret plot.
we have Torrmund who had sex with a she bear. and Mance Rayder staying at the shadow tower as well as Qhorin halfhand.
none of those three men are using their true name. Its quite unusual that some of the men from shadow tower use nicknames halfhand Stonesnake.
from what ive concluded mance=Rhaegar, Torrmund=Arthur Dayne,--or Mouth (german) of the Torr (river that Starfall sits at the mouth of)-- Qhorin halfhand= Gerold Hightower who had the same hand qhorin is missing fingers shot with the arrow
Septa Unella=Maege Mormont High Sparrow= Howland Reed Septa lemore= Ashara Dayne
Dalla ( mances wife)= may be Elia Martell maybe the whole family was swapped out not just Aego, Remember the first time we see mance and hes with Dalla singing the Dornishmans wife tune.
Val = is in on the workings of Mance/rhaegar and she is either rhaella or one of the other daughters of rhaegar From ( elia, ashara, or Lyanna) not enough clues.
All that to say........ Why the hell dont Jeor and Jorah have more backstory and a family tree, which GRRM is notorious for creating for all types of characters... except some of the people and aliases i listed above. and lastly how do they get a valyrian sword being so poor... that backstory is BS
especially a Valyrian sword the size of Blackfyre. Which I think rhaegar acquired and took with him after going TOJ>Starfall>Northern HOldfasts ( mens land who accompanied Ned.. and whose names died but the men lived on)> Bear Island>Shadow tower
and Rhaegar entrusted this sword to them for safe keeping... to give to his son one day.
Well who could these men (jeor and Jorah) be? and why is poor jorah allowed to marry Lynese HightowER? Well if rhaegar had a secret pact with the hightowers, whents, starks, daynes and other northmen and Maester Aemon at the wall.
then someone privy to this pact would have a connection to the hightowers and the secrets they all shared.
The only missing men I can think of are RICKARD Stark and Brandon Stark. The ages lineup. the apperance of RICKARD and JEOR are very similar in GRRM commisioned work. The Old WOlf and the OLd BEar.
and as we dont have persepectives POV characters on these deaths and because characters in our story can lie.. it could be possible. It gives the dynamic of Jeor and Jon a new level
Is it crackpot yes. But it would explain the lack of history for the Mormont men
