I'm not entirely sure the King in the North title is hereditary, but if so, then yes Bran would be the legitimate, if unacknowledged KitN. If the title is not hereditary, but one of actions and need for a king, then Jon would be the one to fit the bill. Especially in his death and presumed resurrection. If shadows are part of the soul, then his soul is the one cut adrift from his body. I also don't think it matters what manner of resurrection he gets, be it something Mel does or something Bran does or even something the Cold does. What comes back to him, will more than likely, not be whole, and that lost bit could very well be what makes a shade, an Other.
The same could be said of Bran I suppose. He's mixing his life in with a collective. How much of himself will remain wholly his? How much of BR is actually left? And quite literally, being in the dark, Bran no longer has need of his shadow.
