OK. Just got done binge-watching this while hiding from the heat. So it's the 80's and strange things are happening. Think ET meets Twin Peaks and throw in some Firestarter. (Super old looking) Matthew Modine plays an MKUltra-esque scientist. Winona Ryder plays a complicated, frenetic, flawed and ultimately kickassedly determined mom of a missing child. A bunch of kid actors that rival the GoT child actors, actually even better IMO. Shout-outs to Dungeons and Dragons, Star Wars and Tolkein while creating a fairly original mythology of its own. If Spielberg directed a Stephen King story as an homage to David Lynch, it might come close to this series. It's only had one season (Netflix) but the season feels like a complete thought, and probably could have been a feature film, but I'm glad it wasn't. There wasn't a single scene or line of dialogue that felt like filler. It was all brilliant. Left just enough questions at the end to warrant another season. Highly recommended!

Blast it, I don't have Netflix! As soon as Amazon gets this, I'll watch. Or maybe I'll just shell out the dosh and get Netflix, there's a number of other series I've been told I'd enjoy on there.

OH MY GOD THIS IS WHY I'VE BEEN BUGGING YOU GUYS TO WATCH THIS, EVEN STEPHEN KING AGREES WITH ME, WHY AM I YELLING? Seriously, I think that's a satirical piece a la The Onion - but I actually wouldn't have been that surprised if it were true.

A few glaring anachronisms that make me as someone who actually lived through 1983, but overall quite entertaining....I will keep watching!

I'm on episode 3. What is this? An alternate world? The friend Barb was pulled into the pool, but it was an alt universe.

I'm on Ep 7 now and am hooked. Ep 5 was the game-changer for me - it turned and took on a whole new level of WTF.

It's already very Stephen King-ish.

It seems that the young actor who plays Dustin - Gaten Matarazzo - is a seasoned Broadway actor and singer. He even played Gavroche in Les Mis. Skip to around :45
