Just a random idea.
In this chapter, Arianne thinks her father wanted to disinherit her, while, in fact, he has greater plans for her.
What if Rhaegar's situation was similar?
People thought that Aerys wanted to disinherit Rhaegar. But what if Aerys had different plans for him?

People thought that Aerys wanted to disinherit Rhaegar. But what if Aerys had different plans for him? I haven’t scrutinized this chapter yet, but I had already identified a parallel between Arianne and Cersei. Cersei has a big chip on her shoulder. She was born before Jaime with Jaime holding onto her foot, so she’s always felt that she should have been Tywin’s heir. But Tywin also had big plans for her - make her a queen. The Targaryen’s parallels lay with the Greyjoy’s, and I am unsure which Greyjoy is Rhaegar’s parallel, although I do suspect Theon, and Theon’s birthright was challenged not just by his sister Asha, but by his uncle Euron. I feel very confident that Euron’s parallel is Bloodraven, who could be considered a bastard great uncle to Rhaegar, which means Rhaegar’s defeat lays squarely on Bloodraven’s shoulders.

I am actually not satisfied with Theon being a parallel to Rhaegar, because while I believe the Greyjoys are mirroring the Targaryens, its the bastards of Aegon IV that they seem to mirror. Euron has three natural brothers: Balon, Victorian, and Urrigon. Bloodraven has three bastard brothers: Daemon I Blackfyre, Aegor Rivers (Bittersteel), and Balerion Otherys. Balon's children should be parallels for Daemon I Blackfyre's children by Rohanne. Their first children were twins, Aegon and Aemon. They went on to have five additional sons, three are named Daemon, Haegon, and Aenys, and two daughters, but the rest are not named, so I am assuming Theon and Asha are parallels for Aegon and Aemon. Aegon was killed by their uncle Brynden Rivers (Bloodraven) during the Battle of the Redgrass Field. Aegon's twin Aemon, along with their father Daemon, were also killed shortly after. Long story short, I haven't come across a titled chapter yet that has parallels for Rhaegar. It could be that Drogo is Rhaegar's parallel, or even Dany herself. It might be interesting to look for parallels between the Targaryens and Dothraki. The funeral pyres of the Dothraki are similar to the Targaryen practice of cremation and their connections to fire.

I personally like to think that Arianne is an inversion of Rhaegar in this chapter. Arianne was alone in the tower and missed her friends. I think Rhaegar was hiding in some tower with his friends/conspirators. Arianne wanted to speak with her father, Rhaegar imo didn't want to. Arianne constantly tried to contact her father but they ignored her. I guess Aerys tried to contact Rhaegar but the prince ignored him. Areo Hotah (captain of the guards) brought Arianne in the tower and later he brought her to her father. Similarly, Gerold Hightower brought Rhaegar back from south, imo because he knew exactly where to find him. I think Gerold knew where Rhaegar is because he accompanied him there. In my headcanon Rhaegar was in High Tower, creating inversion of Arianne, reading interesting books and feasting (as opposite to fasting).

I had made parallels for Areo Hotah, who is Doran Martell's captain of guards. Since Arianne is Cersei, then Doran is Tywin Lannister, thus making Areo a combination of Ser Illyn Payne and Ser Gregor Clegane.

I forgot to add. In titled chapters, imo Asha and Arianne parallel Rhaegar, and maybe that Harlaw Reader sometimes. Daenerys also parallels Rhaegar in some situations. All these female parallels, that's why Rhaegar is described as beautiful and why he has long hair. On the other hand, Asha as a parallel of Rhaegar is described as having short hair, being not very ladylike, and opinions differ whether she's a lady.
I noticed that if a male character has long hair, then he has a female parallel. Aerys/Cersei. Rhaegar/Dany. Drogo/Lyanna.
Daenerys and Drogo are parallel/inversion of Rhaegar and Lyanna: Silver-haired princess and the horselord. Silver prince and Lyanna, half a horse herself.

I like comparison of Areo to Illyn and Clegane. Doran as Tywin's inversion feels right, planning downfall of his enemy. Wyman Manderly is similar, too. Fat old man, seeking revenge for his dead relative.

Well I am struggling with Asha, because I don't like that she's mirroring Daemon's son, Aemon. In The Runaway Wayward Bride chapter the description of Qarl the Maid sounds like a smooth-skinned inversion to a hairy person like either Jeor Mormont or Willem Darry. If that's the case then Asha could be mirroring Rhaella, which would change Theon's mirror from Daemon's son Aegon, to Rhaella's brother-husband Aerys II, and then whoever Qarl is mirroring would be Rhaella's secret lover. Would be strange for Willem Darry to be Daenerys father, but I guess weirder things have already happened!

In The Wayward Bride, I always imagine Asha as Rhaegar, Qarl the Maid is Lyanna and Tris Botley is Ashara. Erik Ironmaker is parallel of Robert Baratheon and inversion of Elia.

Both Qarl and Tristifer are Asha's boyfriends, so you think both Lyanna and Ashara were Rhaegar's girlfriends? I don't see it myself, because I don't believe Rhaegar abducted Lyanna. I think he was on Dragonstone with Elia for Aegon's birth, and then when Elia was well enough to travel they went to Dorne to place Aegon in Doran's care and brought the Pisswater Prince to Kings Landing when Rhaegar was said to have returned from the south.

I don't think Rhaegar abducted Lyanna either. Lyanna was this adventurous type like Arya, she imo got involved in some key events without even knowing what was going on. As for Ashara, I think she fell in love with Rhaegar while she was Elia's company at court. I associate Ashara with Lys, purple color, tears and grief. Tristifer means Bringer of Sorrow. So I consider Tris Botley an echo of Ashara with his unrequited love for Asha. Qarl represents Lyanna for me. Lower social status but funny to be with. Joyous and passionate. Tasting peaches. Someone theorized earlier that Lyanna was hiding in the brothel, disguised as one of them Peaches. I like it bc it suits my idea of Qarl echoing Lyanna. Rhaegar/Asha tasting peaches/Lyanna. I especially like the wordplay and innuendos Grrm sometimes creates.

I have explained the connections people have been seeing between Lyanna and brothels. I believe GRRM is making a commentary on the medieval practice of using daughters to make marriage alliances by commoditizating maidenheads. If a woman’s maidenhead is treated as a commodity then the fathers are pimps and the daughters are prostitutes. Renlys peach therefore was symbolic of this exchange. A peach looks like female genitalia, but Renly understood that Stannis was unlikely to make an alliance with him if he offered a literal maidenhead so he appealed to him as his brother. But ironically Renly’s position as Stannis’s brother was not a valuable exchange to Stannis.

I agree on the peach symbolism. It's a girl/maidenhead. When asked about it, GRRM said: "Smell the roses." Lyanna is associated with roses. "Smell the roses" means you're on Lyanna's track, follow it.

I've just posted part 8 of the Cat of the Canals analysis, with more to come!
