The bar sinister denotes bastardy by taking a family coat of arms and adding a backward slash or bar beginning from the upper left and down across to the right. In Tyrions vision a battle of the bastards.

In Tyrions vision a battle of the bastards. And possibly Tyrion's own bastardy? It's amusing that GRRM used that reference in the book knowing that Peter Dinklage played this part. But Tyrion is more like Underdog than Simon Bar Sinister.

It is / rather than \ this.

The bar sinister is the way Tyrion describes the approaching storm in aDwD Tyrion VI. min , I love this topic, can't wait to see where you're going with it. This always made me think that bastards would be important in the coming events of the novels. Not a stretch I know, but important enough for GRRM to decide it needed it's own doom and gloom portents line from his favorite character. Tyrion outright says "It means some big bastard is creeping up behind us." !!!! Does he mean FAegon? Jon? Someone else? Anyway, great topic. Reminder that there are other ways of denoting bastardry in heraldry, most obviously inverting colors. I've always liked the use of real world use of Fitz-... which seems like a super-chill way to acknowledge illegitimate sons.

There's a whole passage to quote; but it's the symbolism of the monster storm; a hurricane in fact; something that Bran first sees in his coma vision. It looked like milk that had been left on the stove too long. They end up in the eye of the hurricane centered directly in the center of the smoking sea surrounded by mountains he can barely make out through through the storm wall. I will try to get back to this soon. A couple of things to add to the Petyr thread first....
But I have to bake some cookies tonight too. Yum! I broke down and had ice cream last night. I shouldn't have done that.

But when he clambered up the ladder to the sterncastle and looked off from the stern, his smile faltered. Blue sky and blue sea here, but off west … I have never seen a sky that color. A thick band of clouds ran along the horizon. “A bar sinister,” he said to Penny, pointing.
“What does that mean?” she asked.
“It means some big bastard is creeping up behind us.”
Lord Brynden Rivers, called "Lord Bloodraven", was a legitimized Great Bastard of Aegon IV Targaryen and Melissa Blackwood, his sixth mistress.
The Selaesori Qhoran is set to sail from Volantis to Qarth. The Selaesori Qhoran carries tin and iron, bales of wool and lace, fifty Myrish carpets, a corpse pickled in brine, and twenty jars of dragon peppers.[1]
Moqorro travels on board the ship as well on his way to Danaerys via Victarion.

A bastard,a storm and ofcourse blue sky (blue as the eyes of death perhaps) I know exactly where you're going with this! Yep, the symbolism is clear on that one.

Yep, the symbolism is clear on that one. Lol this is soooo funny and i swear great mother it wasn't intentional, but as i came back to post, looking at it i see where it could go to. I was actually thinking along the lines of Jon and his role as KOW in my theory where he takes the wights.Hahahah.But if what your talking about is the other ...True,true that freaking works.
