Jesus, that was intense. On Talking Dead both after the finale and after this premiere, the cast was talking about how this was such a difficult thing to film in so many regards...I totally believe it.
I almost know how the unsullied feel watching GoT.
Yeah, I still remember Wolfmaid posting a Youtube link to a video of some woman shrieking at her webcam and stalking around her room, just raving in disbelief over the Red Wedding.
My reaction to Walking Dead was just... this is horror porn. This is to horror what the Food Porn thread is to food -- something over the top that forces an emotional reaction. It's not about narrative skills or art, it's just somebody shoving a thumb in your eye.
Disturbingly, the producers apparently have said "all the characters have expiration dates." I interpret this to mean they intend to murder them all in due course, often in shocking and horrible ways, which seems to me both half-assed storytelling and not very original.
Because I've seen unpleasant movies and shows where everybody dies in horrible ways before, most recently Sons of Anarchy and Pompeii. They did not impress me on an artistic level. Melancholia ends like that too, and it impressed me only because it involved Kirsten Dunst taking off her top.
