What's sad is that I KNEW all of this was coming, and I'm STILL going to bed depressed. Depressed because this either really is what GRRM has in store for us, or that we'll never find out what GRRM has in store for us and all we'll ever have is this shit story. I want to kick puppies right now.

And Littlefinger's demise can be best summed up by Mr. Pig: "What the hell was that about? I mean, I'm glad he's dead, but what a cheesedick way to go about it. That made no sense." Although Sansa brought up relevant charges against Littlefinger, so I guess they were wrapping up story lines for the viewers. What I don't get is why they just didn't have Jon and Dany forge a marriage alliance rather than have him bend the knee? And when it's revealed to Dany who Jon is, will she then bend the knee? After he cops the other dragon that is.

Are you kidding? Hell, *I* thought that for a second! I realize that all the budget went to CGI dragons and that's probably why they had to recycle Harry Lloyd's entire wardrobe, wig and all, from Season 1, but seriously...Ragger is supposed to be the most gorgeous man in the 7 Kingdoms and we get Show!Viserys' literal twin brother? I just can't.I had to do a double take when they showed Vis-Rhae-ry. I was expecting someone like Legolas or one of the other elves from The Hobbit to be portraying Rhaegar. At the very minimum, someone with brushed hair and not that matted mop of hair from Viserys. Also, I'll have to watch it again but did anyone think that the Night King riding on Viserion was like a F-17 fight jet streaking across the sky? Man he had the ice dragon in turbo/warp speed mode. Wonder if the way in the which the wall came down changes any Heretical views over in the main forum?

Was thinking more about RLJ in terms of the 1993 synopsis. Recall that there was a love triangle between Jon, Arya, and Tyrion - Jon and Arya's relationship being forbidden of course because of the incest between Stark siblings: "Their passion will continue to torment Jon and Arya throughout the trilogy, until the secret of Jon's true parentage is finally revealed in the last book." This implies that, as we have ascertained, Jon is not Ned Stark's son.
Obviously GRRM didn't go that route in the books, and even though some people seem to really ship the idea of Starkcest, I don't think we're going to get it in this generation of Starks. Sorry Jorya and Jonsa fans, but no.
Think about it in terms of the show, though: Jon and Dany voluntarily enter into a incestual relationship unaware that they are relatives, and that relationship will be tested once they learn the truth of Jon Show's parentage. (And ETA: looks like the conflict between Jon and Tyrion is being set up, given the puppydog eyes Tyrion was making at the bedroom door. He's just in love with Dany now instead of Arya.)
This is a complete inversion of the 1993 synopsis, in other words. So it begs the question - is this GRRM's doing, or can we expect something different in the books? Like, say, if Jon and Dany DO end up attracted to each other, and their relationship is 'forbidden' because of the incest angle, will it resolve in the end with a revelation that one of them is not a Targaryen?
Basically the 1993 plan is the same, just with the conflict between two (assumed) Targaryens instead of two Starks, and Dany taking the place of Arya. But if we follow the intent of that original outline, the relationship will eventually be able to proceed because they aren't as closely related after all!
If that holds true, who do think is the false dragon? Jon or Dany?

one of them is not a Targaryen? Been playing around with this all morning. Presuming what Bran saw and what Sam read are true (that's another story), that would mean Dany is the odd egg out. We could say she's a Dayne, but the show hasn't explained to us that the Daynes looked like Targs, not have they spent any significant time talking about either Ashara or Arthur. A Ned/Ashara baby is always a favorite idea to me, but it doesn't solve this problem. Arthur can't be linked to many women, maybe Elia? With all the Tywin reverence going on, is it possible Tywin had a ... thing... with Ashara or someone else? Anyway, I agree with your thinking because of that letter, it was a finer point I argued when the letter came out.

You all give D&D to much credit.I expect this is all about getting Jonny boy on the throne for them.
They have had no source material to work from and it showed.I don't think it matters because they made "booku" money and ratings.

Wouldn't you expect an ice dragon to breath ice or liquid nitrogen?

D&D expanded on the How To Train Your Dragon theme - Viserion became a Night Fury.

Anyway, I agree with your thinking because of that letter, it was a finer point I argued when the letter came out. Don't get your hopes up. Anytime that this show has had an opportunity to do a cool twist, they don't do it. Weaselpie came up with a bunch of cool possible foreshadowing in the conversations between Littlefinger and Bran, things that would have had some really interesting possibilities, and.... nada. As it turns out all Littlefinger was was a creepy guy giving shitty advice and fucking people over. No grand plan, no cool long game, nothing.
Nothing that we love about the books can be found in this show. Do you like the subtleties of the books? Well screw you, because the show assumes their viewers are too dumb to pick up any subtleties. So the subtle hints about Loras and Renly's possible relationship turns into a lot of explicit sex scenes. The subtle hints at some of the atrocities that Ramsay did to Theon turns into a lot of jokes about Theon not having a cock anymore. Do you like the subtle clues about Jon Snow's parentage? Well it gets compressed into once scene of Bran telling us that Jon Snow is Rhaegar and Lyanna's kid, and Sam telling us that he is a Targaryen.
Why does Rhaegar annul his marriage to Elia and turn his first two children into bastards? Who cares, as long as it gives us what everyone wants, Jon Aegon Targaryen. Why would Lyanna name her kid after Rhaegar's first born son with his first wife who he disinherited and delegitimized? Who cares, Aegon is a cool name, you know like Aegon the Conqueror.
Why do the characters engage in a shitty plan to try and capture a wight so they can convince Cersei to join their cause? Just so we can have a zombie dragon and have a cool zombie dragon dragon fight.
Jon's grand plan in having the Wildlings man the Wall to augment the Night's Watch, where does that lead? To a single scene where Tormund looks at the White Walkers in stunned disbelief and tells everyone to run when the Dragon comes. Once again, a huge story arc of both the books and the show with zero payoff.
What was the point of Jorah getting Greyscale? What was the point of burning Shireen? None of these subplots have had any lasting affect.
My suggestion is stop getting your hopes up about this show. This show is utter shit. Just hope that GRRM eventually gets around to finishing the books, before congestive heart failure sets in as it usually does for guys that fat at that age.

I am glad to see someone as bitter and disillusioned about this as me. Lol
I need the Emperor Palpatine meme about letting the hate flow through you...

Maybe we need to add a meme of something that might represent "congestive heart failure". I'm imagining Fred Sanford clutching his chest and staggering...

If that holds true, who do think is the false dragon? Jon or Dany? The show appears to be using the same outline or situations, but with different characters. For example (from Uproxx)Cersei’s scheme — she sent Euron, who pretended to beat a cowardly retreat to the Iron Islands, to Essos to pick up her Golden Company super soldiers...There’s one potentially major flaw in her plan, though: what if Daario Naharis is leading the Golden Company? In the books Euron sends Victarion to get his bride, Daenerys, and he sent a dragon horn to bind a dragon. Will Euron trick Cersei on the show? In the books, won't the Golden Company be on Dany's side and against Victarion? What’s the deal with Tyrion creeping on Jon and Daenerys? Think back to last episode, when Dany lists off Drogo, Jorah, Daario, and Jon Snow, the four men who “all try to outdo each other of who can do the stupidest, bravest thing.” Tyrion revealed Jorah’s love for Daenerys and got him sent away, and Tyrion is also the one who suggested that Daario stay in Meereen while his queen conquers Westeros. (Drogo was already dead by the time Tywin’s non-Kingslayer son sailed west.) Is Tyrion sending these men away because he’s in love with Daenerys? Here's the love triangle instead of Jon, Arya, and Tyrion.
