The midseason premier did not disappoint! All hell breaks loose! That was probably one of the best episodes in a long time...either that or I just really missed the show! I know I said there would be spoilers, but I will put this first post in spoiler tags in case you stumbled into here on accident.
First off, DARYL! And he brings the heat, and I mean HEAT in the form of a rocket launcher! And just when I thought my favorite ginger Abraham was a goner, ka-BOOM! Daryl saves the day! Bye-bye biker gang, but we're left to wonder, who the hell is Negan?
I knew Sam would freak out, and then my fears grew when he starts hearing Carol in his head telling him he's going to be eaten, and then HE DOES! OH MY GOD Jessie! When she saw her little boy go down, she lost all will to fight. Then son reacts like his father and decides he's going to finally get Carl, AND SHOOTS HIM IN THE EYE! But wait, Michonne pushes her samurai sword through the kid and now a whole family is dead.
Maggie and Glenn finally see each other, but when Glenn tries to lead the zombies away from her he nearly gets himself killed, but then Abraham, Sarah, and Daryl arrive with the fuel truck and automatic weapons to clear the area and Glenn is safe!
Then I'm wondering what the hell is Daryl doing emptying all that fuel into the pond? Then I remember that zombies are attracted to fire. Most of the zombies walk towards the fire, which allows for our gang to stab, slash, and gouge all the walking dead inside the fence.
This show is on the same night and time that Game of Thrones will be. I'm going to have to tape both shows! How do I choose!

Wow. I was and I agree, the episode was fantastic. I thought Carl was a goner. That was a brutal, brutal scene all around.
The worst for me was Glenn getting cornered. I thought "He'd better not actually die this time."
Gratefully they faked us out. Gloriously. The zombies walking into the pond of fire was an incredible visual.

I'm very glad that AMC decided to make the changes that would bring the show in line with the comic. It needed to go even darker! I Abraham. Slowly becoming one of my favorites. Still hate Maggie. Did you hear that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is playing Negan? After his stint as The Comedian in Watchmen, I am soopar stoked about this casting. Completely putting Grey's Anatomy out of my mind forever, he will be an awesome Negan.

Is there a drooling emoji? OMG Yes, hate Maggie's arc. She used to be stronger and more interesting. I laughed out loud when Abraham's face popped up on screen to save Glenn. Love that guy! I agree Carl has to be missing an eye. Feel sorry for the actor though. It's going to be tough acting everyday with one eye covered up.

I'm sure his resulting eyepatch will be a see-through job, like the one the Governor and Nick Fury used.

I think the reason why I liked last night's episode so much is that they indulged the fan and the favorite characters "won". Daryl blasted the bikers, and Abraham and Sarah blasted Glenn free. It would be nice if GRRM gave us some of that with the Starks once in awhile.

My jaw is hanging open and my eyes are bug-in-OUT! Richonne had a come to Jesus moment to-NIGHT! I did not see that coming until Rick handed her the mints, then I'm like...oh my god they're gonna kiss! There was a whole lot more goin' on than kissing when we see the naked morning after.
The episode starts out with Rick and Daryl's Excellent Shopping Adventure. Eugene gives them a map of farm sites and tells them to look for sorghum. Sure enough they find a shed with sorghum written across a roll up door. Inside is a straight truck loaded with supplies including toothpaste and toothbrushes that were going to be Rick's gift for Michonne. Stupidly they decide to leave their car there so that they can ride together in the truck. Then instead of taking the truck straight home they decide to hit up a gas station and are tricked by Jesus.
Jesus knows Houdini tricks and magically appears on top of the truck. My boyfriend says something about the lake and sure enough while I'm laughing at Daryl's "that's my gun" the damn truck rolls into the lake! Come on!
Meanwhile in the woods Carl and Enid see Deanna and Carl leads her to her son so that she can be killed by someone who loves her. An awful thing to have to do, but it makes sense to us fans.
So, what did you think of tonight's episode?

When Rick and Michonne did their thing, I turned to Mr. Pig and said, "Is it just me or did that kindof come out of nowhere?" We watched the first few minutes of Talking Dead after with Michonne as a guest, and she very clearly explained HOW this came about and the mental state of the character and all that - it made total sense when she said it, but IMO the show could have done a better job setting that up/conveying it to the viewer. It felt very...random. If the show portrays Jesus the way he is in the comic, his arc is going to be the Holy Shit. Jesus rocks!

I did not see the romance building. Rick was all about Jessie, so to go for Michonne in the very next episode was a surprise.
I haven't read the comics, so you've really got me intrigued about Jesus.

And now we're told that if you don't want the Bisquick turning into pancakes, best wear two sets of galoshes in the rain.

"When you poured that Bisquick did you plan on making pancakes?"
Oh Abraham, you say the darnedest things! But he was only expressing his own fears, because Glenn and Maggie have dared to dream big and build a family. It's something that Abraham recognized that he wants, but hasn't dared take for himself. He asks Daryl in not so many words if he ever thinks about starting a family and Daryl does not think things are even remotely settled to be indulging in such things. Abraham is confusing me with one detail, however, he's sleeping with Rosita, but dreaming of Sasha.
Our gang's world is changing. They were under the impression that there weren't many people out there like themselves. Sure, they've seen other survivors, but they've seen how it has regressed people into survival of the fittest mode and weren't expecting to find a "civilized" group within a day's drive. "Your world's about to get a whole lot bigger", Jesus said as he leads them to the Hilltop, an old mansion that once held historical reenactments, and is now home to about 50 people. They have food, medicine, a doctor, and an arrangement with Negen, who sounds like a leader of a motorcycle gang called the Saviors. Jesus did some recon at Alexandria while Michonne and Rick were, um, distracted in order to learn their weaknesses so their figure-dickhead leader, Gregory could exploit them into a lopsided deal, but Maggie pulls up her maternity-panties and demands half of everything the Hilltop has and in exchange our gang will kill Negan and his followers.
The gang makes to leave, but unexpectedly some Hilltopians return from a drop trip and one of them tries to kill Gregory as part of a deal to release his brother. Rick jumps in and a struggle ensues. Rick is pounding the everlasting daylight out of the guy and then a woman punches Rick to get him to stop, but you don't touch Rick within Michonne range! Rick takes the opportunity to slice the man's neck and his blood drenches Rick. The scene reminds us of a similar scene from when they first arrived at Alexandria. The people of Hilltop stare at Rick in shock, to which Rick asks puzzled, "What?" He just saved their leader from being killed and is genuinely confused why anyone would be upset with him. We all know that Rick is a killing machine, and he just showed his new neighbors that he and his people are not to be messed with.
Will our gang finally meet their match with Negan? Will it really cost them something as Maggie suggests? Will Daryl bring his rocket launcher? And finally, what realization did Abraham have after being strangled? All these questions and more will hopefully be answered with next week's episode.

Why are dingleberries brown? That's just the way shit is.
Harsh man, that was just harsh, but a clean break was the kindest and most prudent way to deal with the breakup, but Abraham's words were also a metaphor for the whole episode. Rick explained that they have to kill Negan's gang. That's just the way shit is.
Why does Abraham have to leave? He tells Rosita that he was with her because he thought she was the last woman on earth, but now that he knows she's not he's leaving? And, I loved how Eugene was wearing a Virginia is for Lovers t-shirt and it's the first thing Rosita saw after Abraham left. Is this foreshadowing for a future Rosita and Eugene hookup?
Anybody have any ideas what Carol's notebook is all about? I was trying to read what she had written there and the significance of 18, but I haven't puzzled it out yet. And who knew you could make delicious cookies with beets and acorns...although those acorns looked pretty big to me, and doesn't Georgia have loads of pecans???
The gang had to go in search of a walker with a similar face to Gregory and found three, but when Jesus said the nose wasn't quite right, Rick grabs it by the scalp and beats it in the face. Andy, whose brother the Saviors have, says to Rick, "The Savior's are scary, but this prick's got nothing on you." It was funny, because last week the people from Hilltop watched Rick get drenched in blood, so the two scenes together would make quite the impression.
What do you suppose those Polaroids were all about with the bashed in heads? I'm sure we'll find out, but I don't want any of the main characters to become a bash-ee. And what was Morgan building? Another holding cage?
Has our gang crossed over into the Governor's territory here? Killing people in their sleep takes a cold, cold heart, but at the same time I'm on their side. They had to do what they did, but somehow their leader escaped and I have a sneaking suspicion that Negan is the woman from the walkie talkie and she and her second in command have Maggie and Carol.

Tonight's episode begins with Maggie and Carol's captors, watching from afar. A group of women and one man. Rick proposes a trade. Maggie and Carol are blindfolded. Their leader communicates with some others and she tells them the Saviors are down.
Carol finds and hides a rosary while Maggie tries free herself by rubbing her ties on a corner. Carol pretends to hyperventilate. She gets a captor to find and give her the rosary so that they think she's a nun. She begs them not to harm Maggie cause she's pregnant. It's psychological warfare to create doubt and sympathy. She gets one captor to get another to stop smoking. The smoker is coughing up blood and announces she's a dead woman walking and so are they.
The one man who is injured complains his arm is on fire. Maggie uses her experience with her father to inform them he's dying or at least he'll lose his arm. He wants to kill or maim Carol because he blames her for the spot they're in. A fight ensues with him against Maggie and Carol but the woman leader puts an end to the fight by killing him. One captor takes Maggie in another room hoping to get intel, while Carol plays the abused wife.
We learn the other group is called Sky Guard. Meanwhile Maggie and her captor are bonding over dead fathers and the captor's dead baby. The captors assert that Carol's group are evil. They want to know why they attacked. Carol brings up the motorcycle gang and said they were acting in self defense because of some crazy leader called Negan. The smoker tells Carol they're all Negan.
The leader tells Carol a story that Carol recognizes is similar to her own. She killed her boss, but lost her husband and children. Now her death kills have reached double digits and she brags that she's just a better version of her former self. Carol asks if she's sure about that? Then Carol asserts that the leader is afraid of dying, and Carol knows this because the woman is so much like herself.
The leader contacts Rick to say she's ready to make a switch. But the leader believes Rick is getting close by since there was hardly any static. The captors leave to prepare. Carol takes their absence to get loose and free Maggie by sharpening the rosary. Carol wants to leave without a fight, but Maggie wants to finish this thing and kill them all. The smoker is the first to go. While she's fighting off the solo male and now turned Walker, Maggie attacks. The leader comes back to see smoker dead and Carol and Maggie gone.
Carol hesitates to kill the leader and it nearly gets them both killed. We learn Carol is worried about becoming a ruthless killer like their leader. I guess Morgan is having some influence on her, but she gets the message loud and clear that it's kill or be killed. The scene ends with Rick and the gang finding them, and they kill their captive who declared he was Negan, but we know he meant a larger group. Lastly we see Carol's hand bleeding while she squeezes the sharpened rosary in her hand.
