Is it Gerold Hightower who is missing? I came across this bit in an another essay I reading this morning: I have argued elsewhere that Qhorin is Gerold Hightower, wounded in the hand by the Kingswood Brotherhood in 281, just before Robert’s Rebellion, a wound that eventually cost him fingers. Is Gerold a man of the Night's Watch about this time? A Song of Ice and TootlesI would like to believe this as I've had my own suspicions regarding the 3 Kingsguard. I think all three went incognito and that's why Ned didn't see them anywhere except in his fever dream. I was very disappointed with the tower of joy scene on the show. The other guy on the show was supposed to be Hightower according to the credits...I think...isn't that what Some Pig reported?

At least for the HBO version. I have to watch this again tonight. I can't get over that Howland was rifling the bodies. Looking for what? That's going to make me crazy.

I just watched the show, and noticed something a bit disturbing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but after the fight at toj is over, doesn't it look like Howland Reed starts to loot the bodies? Damn, first the stab in the back and now this? That is disturbing. See that was not in the version of the show I watched, or if it was I missed it due to chatting with my Unsullied company. Hence, me asking upthread about what became of Howland after the fight.

I've had the notion that Ned knew where to find Arthur Dayne and when. That this is the appointed time and place and that either Dayne sent him a message or Howland is a green dreamer and told Ned where to find them. Why would Howland hang back instead of going into the ToJ with Ned? When Howland says "I'll take care of this" and rifles Dayne's body; he is looking for something of consequence. Something that Ned already knows about and leaves it to Howland. I don't think he's just stealing. A letter perhaps?

The only reason I noticed it was because I was specifically on the lookout for what Howland was doing when Ned ran to the tower.

Definitely looting.
Also, did anyone catch the look on BR's face when Ned "heard" Bran's call on the steps and turned around? His expression looks very sad, almost like he's in pain. I can't tell if it's because Bran isn't listening or because Bran's not listening had a ripple effect that we don't know about yet.
I only bring this up because Max von Sydow is a very deliberate actor. That look on his face was absolutely intentional.

I definitely need to watch it again because I missed a lot. Sigh, I like having friends to watch the show with, but blast it, I miss things!

I don't think that the person showing Bran around is Bloodraven. At some point he said that he's been watching from the tree roots for a thousand years. It also wouldn't surprise me if the character that Bran(and the audience)is seeing, might actually be a glamor of some sort , and we'll find out that he's really just a dried up husk amongst the roots.

Max has a natural slight accent but we know he could have done any accent necessary. From what we know of BR, would he have a strong foreign accent? Good call there freyfamilyreunion

I can go with Bloodraven as a glamor for someone or something else and waiting for a 1000 years.

I missed a ton the first 2 times, the third time I finally took a few notes, lol and I still missed the looting! Which I have to laugh at now, because the first thing I do after slaughtering enemies is loot their bodies for some upgraded armor and healing essences.

In S4, did he do the "the name my mother gave me at her breast was Brynden" bit? I don't remember.
But yeah, I'm on board with Bloodraven being a meat suit of sorts. I theorized before that BR was serving as a 'placeholder' of sorts in the trees because of his innate abilities and FM magic blood, and it would make perfect sense for "whatever" has been waiting 1000 years to need a bod to chill out in, jack into the Matrix and whatnot.

Or "a thousand years" is akin to "I've been waiting forever!"

Or it's the tree talking, rather than the man.
