Which I have to laugh at now, because the first thing I do after slaughtering enemies is loot their bodies for some upgraded armor and healing essences. I thought you were talking of real life for a moment!

Or it's the tree talking, rather than the man. This is a great way to look at it. As maybe a collective "we in the tree" as it were. How many have gone into the tree? But the questions needs to be, who first went into the tree 1,000 years ago?

Didn't it seem the northmen were under-armored for the fight?

Didn't it seem the northmen were under-armored for the fight? Yes, now that you mention it. Especially considering Dayne made a big deal of donning his helm.

I thought you were talking of real life for a moment! I was talking about real life... Oh I see, didn't realise you had first hand experience in these matters. JIC you're not winding me up -- -- if you aren't, can we team up, if ever I should feel the need to fight ?

So I'm coming pretty late to the party, but only because I didn't get Feather's invite several days ago. My fault and I digress.
Coming in two days after E3 and I find the thread 11 pages deep. Since most of you are Heretics, you will not mind going back over old ground...right?
Did the tower of joy "flashback" leave anyone desiring more? I understand the need by HBO to draw this out, but if they plan is to spoon feed us with Bran's time capsules, where does this really leave his story arc at the end of this season? I suppose it could set him up for real damage/control in the next season, but I almost feel that these small clips are the proverbial "death by a thousand cuts". I guess next week we will get to see young Eddard rush into the room and find Lyanna on her bed of blood and young Skywalker, sorry Grasshopper, forgot...young Bran Greenseer in training following.

I can understand the delicate handling, but what I can't understand is treating a fever dream as an historic flashback. Having said that, they kept the same ambiguity in the scene as we were given in the book by Ned's dream, so... but yes. We already have House Martell obliterated, Shireen barbecued, Roose shishkabobbed, Sansa defiled and Jon Snow calmly quitting his post. What's a little royal bastard in the mix?

I'm predicting that we'll see Lyanna's passing in Ep 5 and perhaps even learn of a child, but will get the full reveal in Ep 9 or 10....when Bran sees Ned shipping baby Dany off to Tyrosh to live with Blackfyre exiles or somesuch. Or something like that. I really don't want to believe that D&D will go full fanfic and do a straight RLJ with no seasoning. Borrrr-ing. Come to think of it, I really don't want to believe that GRRM will do that either. I'm holding out hope that we'll see Oswell Whent torturing Lya in the tower next ep, getting ready to plunk a kid down onto a brazier in some kind of blood sacrifice ritual.

So happy to see you Mace! We're all quite unhappy with the tower of joy scene.

Didn't it seem the northmen were under-armored for the fight? Allow me a scenario. Ned and company expected to meet someone, possibly Lyanna, at the tower. But Dayne and Hightower (and Whent) got there first. Rewatch the beginning of the scene and let me know what you think.

Definitely looting. Also, did anyone catch the look on BR's face when Ned "heard" Bran's call on the steps and turned around? His expression looks very sad, almost like he's in pain. I can't tell if it's because Bran isn't listening or because Bran's not listening had a ripple effect that we don't know about yet. I only bring this up because Max von Sydow is a very deliberate actor. That look on his face was absolutely intentional. Maybe when Bran "Calls" to Ned he is delaying him and the delay will have tragic consequences. BR could know that this delay is significant and is saddened that it occurred. That is my take at least.

That's what I'm thinking too. Had Bran not intervened, Ned could have kept going and prevented something. Allow me a scenario. Ned and company expected to meet someone, possibly Lyanna, at the tower. But Dayne and Hightower (and Whent) got there first. Now that's new! Interesting...Imma see if I can recover from my recently deleted bin right now.
