I saw that and chuckled, wondering if it had a secondary meaning -- that they were waiting for a book known as The Winds of Winter to come out, before making certain major storytelling decisions.
Then I thought "Not even D&D could be that foolish."

I'll say this, if they really are waiting for winter for the atmospheric feel, then I pity all cast and especially crew. Winter in N Ireland is horrible, I lived it as a kid. It's rainy and damp with more hoarfrost than snow. And according to my wife, wait for winter in the southern part of Spain, where they are shooting, is a fools errand. Visually the only thing that changes is the slant of shadows and the weather is cooler, not cold, during the day despite the relentless sun. The amount of rainy days does go up, but not enough to count on as a steady thing.

Right, it's the most cop-out excuse ever IMO. They can't control the weather, even in Winter. No guarantees of the grey frosty atmosphere they claim they want, no matter where they're shooting. And it's not like they don't have other options to fake the weather/atmosphere.

No guarantees of the grey frosty atmosphere they claim they want, no matter where they're shooting. Actually, and I speak from experience, the best time to get that grey, foggy, ominous atmosphere is in the spring and autumn* in N Ireland. The change in air temperatures coupled with damp and the warmth or cold of the land almost guarantee it. It's only in late autumn and the early part of winter, before the land has frozen that you get this effect. Mind you autumn and spring are also a time for the worst type of rains due to the increased winds. I doesn't so much fall out of the sky in buckets as runs at full pelt away from it. Sideways. Spring is similar, only the vapour is land based, rather than air based, as in fog and low lying clouds, because the land is like a cold drink on a hot day; it emits vapour due to the always present damp that is the entirety of Britain, but especially the north. *Which is when they've traditionally shot the show, in summer and autumn. Additionally, they don't usually wrap up before December, as we've seen from those casting calls. Meaning if they've already shot in winter, we've never noticed. And besides, all the interiors don't rely on the weather!

I bet they'll bring in snow making machines like the ski resorts use, but you still need cold temperatures.

I bet they'll bring in snow making machines like the ski resorts use, but you still need cold temperatures. They already do that! And even in summer, the temps don't usually reach high enough temps to melt the man snow that quickly. Their biggest peril to melting the snow is rain, which is most abundant in winter, btw.

There is always fake snow. Used all the time. And "ice" sets built out of foam. And greenscreen. And etc. Yeah - they don't need real weather or real snow to film a "cold" scene.

Maybe winter isn't coming....But yes, they could bring in fake snow and even add frost to a person's breath for realism. There is no reason to wait for certain weather events as there is no way to be sure you will get what you are waiting for.

Short teaser on Season 7's doings.
Additionally it's been confirmed that Season 7 will only have 7 episodes and they will not air until the summer of 2017.

Either they are waiting for George or they are trying to emulate him. Or gaslighting him back for all those chapters with important plot points in them before the start of every season.

I thought they were delaying the filming, because they needed lots of snow?
