from November 6:
The election still has me in a state of high anxiety. I am not sleeping well, and I think I check 538 about three dozen times a day, hoping for some good news. Tuesday cannot come fast enough for me. I think I speak for a lot of Americans when I say that I desperately want this thing to be over. It has been SO ugly. Come Tuesday night, I will either be relieved or suicidal. I think I speak for a lot of Americans about that as well.

Come Tuesday night, I will either be relieved or suicidal. I hope Parris has her eye out at least! Is it selfish of me to think that out of all the potential problems a Trump presidency can entail, one of my main concerns is that GRRM will either fall into a dark depression and stop writing or eat himself to death?
Trump would have had my vote if his slogan was "Make Martin Write Again"

Trump would have had my vote if his slogan was "Make Martin Write Again" Now I'm wondering if he needs to rewrite an entire plot line (a la Walter White - we are yet to see this promised reincarnation) to include Hillary or Donald or both. Aaaaand now I'm worried too. Let's just hope that a "deep depression" for George means thinking up ways Arya takes it out on Cersei.

Well, since he can't turn on the TV anymore without somewhere encountering this depressing reality, he won't be as distracted by this one thing at least - maybe it will free up some room!
My question is, will we see shadows of this election play out in both TWOW and ADOS? He certainly used the Clinton presidency as inspiration and no one will be able to convince me that he didn't base Tywin Lannister on Dick Cheney. And all of Dany's Slaver's Bay world building = "Mission Accomplished" with dragons.

Over the next four years, our problems are going to get much, much worse. Winter is coming. I told you so. Actually, Gary Kasparov told us so, in a book of the same name, on this very subject -- how Putin has created a model for transforming a democratic republic into a dictator's wet dream. Trump may well gradually transform America in such a way as well. Here's a discussion on that exact topic I expect many of us will find heartbreakingly accurate, written in July. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/global-opinions/donald-trump-reminds-me-of-vladimir-putin--and-that-is-terrifying/2016/07/23/36397692-50e5-11e6-a7d8-13d06b37f256_story.htmlNote the last line. I do not consider it an exaggeration to say that Trump is a mortal threat to the republic. Those who speak blithely of how he won't get through a year without being impeached by the GOP-controlled Congress, such as Aaron Sorkin, are apparently living in an imaginary reality such as that of The West Wing (a progressive fantasy). It is far more likely he will transform this Congress, which is weak and short-sighted, into the tools by which he does as he pleases with the nation's powers and resources.

Well I guess we can stop worrying about George he's back schilling stuff on his blog again. The more things change...
