Mr. Robot is on USA Network, and right now in the middle of Season Two. I caught a few episodes and was intrigued enough to go back to Season One.
Elliot (the awesome Rami Malek) is a vigilante hacker who gets recruited by an Anonymous-type organization. He also has a severe problem with delusions and social anxiety, among other things. His narration is a mesmerizing internal voice that sometimes breaks the fourth wall. This is drama/thriller folks, no making light of his struggles a la Monk. Stellar casting and highly memorable characters, especially the creepy Tyrell Wellick.
Bonus: also stars Christian Slater. Kind of funny my two favorite new series (this and Stranger Things) feature the stars from Heathers.
Give it a shot as your end of the summer binge, bonus is that you can watch the rest of season two as it unfolds.

Finished watching the first series this week. Brilliant! Aside from both my wife and son coming in to tell me that Elliot (Rami Malek) is Snafu on The Pacific, I think he deserves to be nominated for something. F*ckin' Hell, that Tyrell Wellick and his wife are mental! Loved it. I want a fire sale to happen in the RL now! And can I just say, Qwerty is the best name I've hear thus far for a fish

The writing is insanely good, and there is nothing predictable about this series. I was literally saying out loud WTF! Can't wait to find out more about Tyrell and his extraordinarily lovely (cough) wife. That whole story arc is... wow.

You really don't know where stuff is going on this show. One little throwaway line at the very beginning of the series is what breaks the entire down. Brilliant. I am going to wait a couple of weeks till the second series ends because I want to binge watch them all. Mind you, the little cliffhanger they made at the absolute last minute of the first series is killing me! I think you answered my questions of who, if you know what I mean? Don't want to spoil the show for anyone. I'm going to jump on this one as soon as I finish Stranger Things! You will love it. We seem to have very similar tastes in TV shows, so this one is going to be right up there with AHS, OB and Banshee.

Don't want to spoil the show for anyone. Trying to be super careful about those! One of my fave characters is turning out to be Angela. *insert spoilers*

Not to mention her new tutor and all the shoe bollocks. FFS! I was so shocked she could be that cold blooded. Loved it though. To be honest I think I'm a little infatuated with Mrs Wellick and her mentalness. They should've made her a redhead, lol. But Darlene is probably my fav.

Halfway through S1. This is totally some Tyler Durden action going on, isn't it?

Oh I just remembered a question I'd had while watching this. Does suboxone(sp?) stop opiate withdrawal or just mask it? I don't get why he uses it in combo with morphine.

Oh I just remembered a question I'd had while watching this. Does suboxone(sp?) stop opiate withdrawal or just mask it? I don't get why he uses it in combo with morphine. Short answer would be that he's theoretically able to keep the morphine dose low instead of needing more and more for the same high, since naloxone is an antagonist (blocks the effects of opioids). Again theoretically, he's constantly desensitizing himself in order to increase sensitivity. If that makes sense. Controlled low dose opioid use has a lesser chance of addiction and therefor a lesser risk of withdrawal - keyword controlled. Did I mention it's theoretical? FTR I have my doubts, and considering the character, who knows what's going on with him and his meds. I've considered that part of his delusion is that his illicit drugs were really his psych drugs - which we can be pretty sure he stopped taking at a certain point. Either that or he created a daily drama out of his anti-psychotics in order to rationalize them in some way.
Then again, knowing Elliot, he'd probably be able to have the discipline/ability to take the same drugs in the same way every single day because he's a creature of habit (to put it lightly). Not many people would be able to.

Again theoretically, he's constantly desensitizing himself in order to increase sensitivity. If that makes sense. Controlled low dose opioid use has a lesser chance of addiction and therefor a lesser risk of withdrawal - keyword controlled. Did I mention it's theoretical? Yeah, that's what I thought too. His logical mind was finding a way to excuse his opiate abuse. If he can get high on such a low dose for an addict, then he doesn't ever get the tolerance associated with addiction. Hence, he's not an addict, even though he is. But then why does he have such a bad withdrawal reaction? Wouldn't his taking of the suboxone have mitigated that? Or does the suboxone itself also cause those kind of withdrawal symptoms? I've got to say, that one was probably my favour episode of the first series. Brilliantly shot! The DoP and the colourist deserve Emmies for this episode.
I'll tell you, I had a very good friend just like Elliot. Not a computer genius, but in his other aspect, if you get what I'm saying. So basically I can guarantee you he stopped taking his meds. To get that kind of delusion, a schizophrenic has to stop taking his anti-psychotics. I think he really was taking morphine, and at 30mg daily, that is not a low dose! All the blank outs about his sister and not recognising his father within his delusions can all be attributed to morphine in use. It is a documented affect of morphine with patients that already have mental issues, to not recognise real people when they're standing in front of them. So that could explain why he can be in the world he's in. That combination I mean.

Man. And here I was thinking Elliot just has Asperger's. (FWIW all the weird social behaviors are Aspie stuff.)

Man. And here I was thinking Elliot just has Asperger's. (FWIW all the weird social behaviors are Aspie stuff.) Oh I think you're right and he could have Asperger's. The is no reason that there can't be co-morbidity going on. The genius aspect of his personality certainly suggests Asperger's. His paranoia doesn't though, that's not a usual symptom, mainly because true Aspergers don't care about what the outside world is doing.

Yep, the monofocal genius thing, the no touching thing, the lack of appropriate affect in social situations, etc...all Aspie. I figured the paranoia was just a side effect of the drugs...didn't tie that at all to the Tyler Durden thing. Then again, I'm only through Ep 5! I'm sure more will become clear here soon.
