What if Planetos is a moon? One moon....of two? Would you be surprised that there's a Marvel correlation for that? It's the essay I'm working on now.

When WP said this my mind went, "what?", but when SP added "one of two" it made sense, especially recalling the astrolabe with the sun in the center. Actually, the more I think about this the more it makes sense! The broken "moon" is actually the broken seasons, the addition of magic, all the things the Children think are wrong that need to be corrected. Great idea Weasel Pie! And Some Pig, when will your essay be completed? It sounds fascinating!

One moon....of two? Would you be surprised that there's a Marvel correlation for that? It's the essay I'm working on now. Hella one of two! Or the surviving one, the sibling/twin having been destroyed already. And why am I NOT surprised? Actually, the more I think about this the more it makes sense! What made me think about this was the recent studies of Jupiter's moon Io - which is highly volcanic, has a regular pattern of darkness (because it's in the shadow of Jupiter) which collapses its atmosphere, etc. Then I got to thinking that the dark side of our own moon has been having a Long Night for millenium.

Planetos would have to be the "broken" moon since there's still a moon in the sky.

Don't forget that some moons could - theorectically - support life at some point millions of years from now. Europa is an example - another of Jupiter's moon children.
And did you know that asteroids can have moons? Meet 243-Ida and her moon Dactyl. Dactyl, the first known asteroid moon, was discovered in Feb 1994 (!!) during Galileo's flyby of Jupiter. This is neato:

In my travels, thinking about ac's thread about the Wall and the curtain of light, I dug up an article about the Hollow Earth patent (fairly famous thing once you get into it). Anyway, had a laugh. Marshall B. Gardner - proponent of the theory, the patent-holder in question, author of A Journey to the Earth's Interior. Lol, Gardner. Grrm:

Nice. Martin's using double meanings as usual. I think I'm gonna start shaking a fist at Martin.

I'm reading Gardner's book right now, it's way past copyright, so available on the web. One fun thing he uses as proof is the Entada bean pod, a tropical seed pod that has no business being in the Arctic. A quick search tells me that this bean is used (even today) heh. Some Pig No Doubt not to derail your thread, rather this is all in support of it. Another section of the book mentions volcanic dust found in arctic ice for which there is little explanation, but part of Gardner's hypothesis is that the interior Earth is rich in volcanic activity. This is all ac's fault for nudging my memory in his thread lol. (Bran's curtain of light is the inner sun shining through the apeture at the pole)

George is quite fond of his puns, cryptic references, and double entendres...that's for sure! Some Pig No Doubt not to derail your thread, rather this is all in support of it. No, go right ahead...me likey! Another poster on Westeros just put out a theory about the presence of the Ifeqevron, mammoths, and giants in Essos that goes back to people and things "walking" from one part of the planet to another based on now-defunct/disappeared geologic pathways, so same diffusion different product. I posted a link to this thread as he has also done some work with volcanic activity, but no bites yet. (Bran's curtain of light is the inner sun shining through the apeture at the pole) NICE.

I know this makes absolutely no sense. I hope no one wastes a lot of time reading it. I like the connections you made there.

Leaf to Bran and the gang, yup, all the BR Cave chapters are full of cool stuff like that - ties in Gorne/Gendel, Winterfell etc. There are also the cool albino fish.

Has anyone had a close look at the final image of the astrolabe in the opening sequence. Here's what I see: - an eclipse - the moon blocking the sun - the blood eye - black pupil surrounded by red - two pyramids or mountains inverted; the mother of mountains and Braavos; a volcano and an underwater volcano - Euron's sigil - two crows and the red eye - also inverted - the three eyed crow - one above and one below i.ytimg.com/vi/XAgZOyklEZI/maxresdefault.jpgEDITED by Ser Duncan to include the photo Min is speaking of --
