I can't Melifeather I don't have HBO. I'll pick up HBO again when it comes time for GoT. And other people who many not have seen the show yet will get things spoiled if they venture into this thread. Every thread on here is relatively spoiler free with the exception of TWD because I don't watch that show and didn't realise you guys were not using spoiler tags. It's simply a courtesy for any member, or in fact lurker, to use spoiler tags. How are you watching it? Or aren't you yet? I'm OK with spoiler tags too. It just felt burdensome for a bit yesterday when there was so much to say. I'd give you my login for HBOGO, but I think both of my daughters are already using it and I don't think HBO would understand when I start logging in from NY.

I'm not watching it yet, but I'd like to get a feel for if it's worth watching once I do hook HBO back up. For example I was watching The Night of, just before I dropped HBO and if I'd known how dull it was, and how it was not the story I thought it was going towards, I wouldn't have bothered to begin with. Thanks for the offer, but I don't know if you would get into trouble with HBO by doing that, so best not.

It might be worthwhile to tag comments by Episode for future viewers. At first, I thought the thing was a bit bland and flat. But it's a case of going back and reviewing episodes as layers are peeled back. Second viewing was far more interesting. It's full on intrigue and mystery. It's interesting that some of the cast are saying that Season One is like a prequel and Season two will be the mind blower. It's the subtleties that I notice now.

The consensus I'm getting is that the last 15 minutes of Episode One made people want to watch Episode Two. And Episode Two made people want to see the rest of Season One lol. The cast is brilliant and I take back what I said about Ed and Anthony.

Min that fact series 1 is a prequal is both intriguing and kinda scary too. Usually that means there's a whole lot of set up, with not that much getting resolved at the end of the first series. See that's the kind of thing I love to know before going into a show. So I'll be checking in once in a while as the series progress just to see reactions. Not to check if you're all using spoilers.

I just want you to be part of the conversation at some point.

As you all can see, I'm chomping at the bit here.

I think the deal-io is you don't get to see the episodes in real time, but a day or two later. I've never tried it, but my daughter has. Let me know how it goes.

Did you see episode 1 Ser Duncan? Not yet. I started it but had to give it up because I couldn't concentrate due to a blinding migraine. Hopefully when this passes, I'll start over.

Finally finished the first episode. Now I'm not sure it's me, with my barely under control migraine or... Is this a story about artificial intelligence and how once they become self-aware they have rights, just as humans do? And are being denied it by Hopkin's character and the whole corp.
The reason I ask this is the quotes Dolores' dad uses from Shakespeare. Particularly these --
When we are born, we cry that we are come To this great stage of fools
This shows self-awareness on the dad's part. He knows why babies cry at birth in his world, because they are not free, nor do they have free will even if they have self-awareness.
By my most mechanical and dirty hand
Then he goes on to say he himself has liberated his being from the confines of the game. 'By my mechanical hand' is a clear indication to me that the dad, in finding that photo came to the realisation all by himself. And it infuriates him, an emotion he's not allowed to simulate, thus his breakdown.
I shall have such revenges on you both That all the world shall–I will do such things– What they are yet I know not, but they shall be The terrors of the earth
The dad is telling Hopkins he will no longer be a pawn. He's clearly saying, he doesn't know and maybe doesn't fully understand who and what he is, but he will realise these terrors if he must. Now Dolores is a bird of a different feather (no pun intended). She's involved in most of everything that's going on in Westworld. My thoughts are that she's learned to play the game. Not the simulation, but the real game, the one Hopkin is playing with all of them. They are his ant farm and she knows it, but is smart enough to know nothing except decommission will come from exposing it. I think she and the Johnny Cash wanna be, who some how is flying under the wire, are in this together. It's their aim to be fully autonomous. And finally a note on the flies. The thing that sticks out for me is that flies are often indicative of corruption. We see them in the most putrid of places, feeding and laying eggs. That they should be inside the corp, as we see with Dolores not smacking, or even so much as reacting, to the one crawling on her eye, is symbolic of the corruption within the organisation. They are not only in the game as a natural part of that world, they are in the sterile confines of the creators lair. Meaning, both the world and the creation of it is corrupted.

Great observations Dunc! I think this show is going to be spectacular in the long run, because of all the philosophical/existential issues you raise.
